The Role

Overview

Lead electrical safety compliance and manage safety team for utility distribution projects.

Tasks

-Travel as needed to various job sites and office locations. -May handle or assist with discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy. Conducts regular site visits to overhead and underground electrical distribution projects to verify compliance with federal, state, customer, and MGE requirements. -Monitors and enforces compliance with company and customer safety procedures, including energized work practices, switching/tagging, grounding, and excavation interfaces. -Provides coaching, mentorship, and development opportunities to Civil and Electric Safety Specialists on Electric related observations. -Recruits and hires; provides constructive and timely performance evaluations and identifies training needs for Electric Safety Specialists. -Tracks safety performance metrics (leading and lagging indicators) and prepares monthly reports for executive leadership and customers. -Prepares and delivers training sessions on topics such as energized work boundaries, minimum approach distances, human error prevention tools (three-way communication, stop work authority), excavation safety near energized facilities and any additional training that could be relevant to electric operations. -Develops and implements inspection policies and procedures for electric operations, including a schedule of routine jobsite audits. -Builds and maintains professional relationships with customer representatives, providing timely reports and updates. -Manages a team of Safety Specialists assigned to oversee electric operations, ensuring field coverage and compliance oversight. -Drafts and maintains inspection reports and compliance documentation; ensures accurate records are retained per regulatory and customer requirements. -Leads or assists in investigations of incidents and injuries; drafts comprehensive reports, performs TapRooT cause analysis, and ensures corrective actions are implemented and effective.

What You Bring

-Must be physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections. -Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas. -Minimum of 7 years of safety-related experience in electrical utility distribution (overhead and underground). -Extensive knowledge of electrical safety, excavation/trenching regulations, and customer utility safety requirements. -Valid Class C Driver’s License with a clean driving record -Excellent communication, organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. -OSHA 510/500 training credential preferred. -Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds individually or up to 50 pounds with assistance. -Employee may be required to drive a motor vehicle and travel to various project sites. -High School Diploma or GED required, Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred. -Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. -Multiple monitors, standing desks, and other ergonomic equipment to match your work style. -Ability to influence, train, and motivate team members while working collaboratively with management, utilities, subcontractors, and trades. -Proficient in technology and equipment used in electrical safety inspections. -Demonstrated experience conducting and leading incident investigations with effective corrective action follow-through. -Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software. -Professional certifications are strongly preferred: CUSP (Certified Utility Safety Professional), CSP, ASP, CHST, or equivalent. -Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
