Roofing Laborer

Overview

Assist roofers with site prep, material handling, and roof installation tasks.

Tasks

-Operating vehicles, mechanized devices, or equipment -Repair cracks, defects, or damage, using proper materials -Clean up debris from the roof surface and surrounding property -Assist with the installation of partially overlapping layers of material over roof insulation surfaces -Assist with the installation of vapor barriers and/or layers of insulation on the roof decks -Apply adhesives, caulking, sealants, or coatings -Cover exposed nail heads with roofing cement or caulking to prevent water leakage and rust -Assist with covering roofs and exterior walls of structures with metal, single-ply systems, slate, asphalt, aluminum, wood, gravel, gypsum, and/or related materials, using brushes, knives, punches, hammers, and other tools

-Must be self-motivated, open-minded, and able to accept constructive criticism -Ability to organize, plan, and execute work assignments -Requires exposure to minor burns, cuts, bites, or stings -Education: High School/G.E.D preferred but not required -Requires ability to climb, lift, balance, walk, and handle materials -Ability to identify problems and communicate them to his foreman in order to accomplish work -Ability to read and use tape measure, mark, or record distances -Interpersonal skills necessary to work on a team -Knowledge of the basic safety techniques and procedures -Willing to submit to a 10-panel drug test -Requires use of ladders, scaffolds, and stairways -Requires exposure to high places or dangerous conditions -Experience: General construction experience preferred -Attention to detail, ability to prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines according to instructions received -Requires working in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions, in very hot (above 90 F degrees) or very cold (below 32 F degrees) temperatures, including exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable -Requires standing up for long periods of time -General basic knowledge of construction materials and tools involved in the construction or repair of structures -Requires ability to stand, walk, lift, and carry items weighing 50 pounds regularly -Includes exposure to contaminants, hazardous material, or equipment -Requires use of abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without giving out or fatiguing -Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job -Requires repetitive movement, bending or twisting, kneeling, crouching, stooping or crawling -Requires seeing details at close range -Driver's License: Not required but it is a plus -Ability to identify and resolves problems in a timely manner according to instructions received
