The Role

Overview

Lead regional HSE strategy, team and safety culture for Calgary projects.

Tasks

-Act as the primary point of contact for all HSE-related matters in the Calgary region and liaise with regulatory bodies as necessary. -Develop, implement, and maintain the project HSE strategy, policies, and procedures. -Lead and mentor a team of 15+ HSE professionals; set expectations, build capability, and drive consistency across sites. -Facilitate regular reviews and updates of HSE policies, procedures and systems. -Promote and support a strong safety culture across projects in the region. -Implement best practices and innovative solutions to enhance the effectiveness of HSE management systems. -Prepare regular reports on HSE performance for senior management, identifying trends, areas for improvement, and success stories. -Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, clients, and industry groups. -Ensure accurate and timely reporting of HSE incidents and near misses. -Work closely with project staff to ensure there is confidence and understanding of the HSE regulations, policies and processes. -Identify and develop the next generation of HSE leaders -Develop, maintain and execute a risk management framework to proactively identify and mitigate remaining HSE risks for the projects in the Calgary Region. -Lead initiatives to drive continuous improvement in HSE processes and performance.

What You Bring

-Proficiency in HSE management systems and software (HCSS Safety knowledge an asset). -Strong knowledge of Calgary HSE regulations, WCB requirements, standards, and best practices. -Proficient leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. -Demonstrated experience in report writing to a senior level. -Demonstrated ability to lead through influence and build high performing, engaged teams. -Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. -10+ years of progressive HSE experience in construction, ideally with a focus on Civil, Commercial, and Institutional Construction (ICI), and/or Residential High Rise Construction. -Additional safety designations and certifications such as CRSP, NCSO, CPR/First Aid, EMT and OSHA/MSHA -CRSP designation preferred but not required. -Degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Construction Management or related field. -Proven track record of successful HSE strategy development, cultural change initiatives and implementation, including solid presentation, meeting and training facilitation skills.
