Tasks

-Prepare technical reports, assist with proposals, and support regulatory filings (CPUC, CEC, etc.). -Apply principles of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and energy conversion to evaluate building performance. -Present research findings to clients and stakeholders. -Prepare technical reports, proposals, and documentation for clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies (CPUC, CEC, etc.). -Conduct energy modeling, data analysis, and building performance evaluations. -Conduct data analysis, scripting, and visualization to interpret and present energy use findings. -Utilize Excel and other analytical tools to support decision-making and policy development. -Present research findings and technical results to project teams and external stakeholders. -Support and execute building energy efficiency projects with a focus on energy modeling and data analysis. -Collaborate on the development and refinement of California Title 24 Building Energy Standards and related building codes. -Support R&D, monitoring and evaluation, and Title 24 Codes and Standards projects.

What You Bring

Frontier Energy is seeking a Building Science Engineer (3–5 years of experience) to support and manage research projects focused on building energy efficiency, energy modeling, and renewable energy. Working under the guidance of senior staff, the Engineer II will contribute to project execution, data analysis, and technical reporting across residential, commercial, and mixed-use sectors. -Strong technical writing skills with a portfolio of published reports, filings, or proposals. -Proficiency with building energy modeling software including CBECC, EnergyPlus, OpenStudio, and the CEC-recognized residential and non-residential energy compliance tools. -Professional certifications such as LEED AP, Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Building Performance Institute (BPI), or Engineer in Training (EIT) credentials. -3-5 years relevant work experience in engineering or technical roles. -Strong proficiency with Excel, with data analysis, pivot tables, advanced formulas, and charting skills at a 4/5 level. -Experience managing multi-stakeholder projects, including timelines, deliverables, stakeholder engagement, and client communications. -3-5 years of work experience specifically within the energy sector. -Familiarity with the California regulatory environment, including California Title 24, Part 6, and utility or third party energy efficiency programs. -Actively pursue collaborations across project teams. Accepts and gives feedback constructively. Demonstrates strong critical thinking skills to navigate complex technical challenges and make informed decisions. -Proficiency in Python for advanced data analysis and visualization. -Basic understanding of current California activities related to grid resilience, distributed energy resources, electrification and carbon reduction strategies. -B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Science, Energy Systems, or a related field. -Understanding of common energy efficiency measures in new and existing buildings, including the importance of systems interactions and non-energy factors such as cost, comfort, durability, and indoor air quality. -Shows grit and perseverance in tackling difficult problems, maintaining focus and resilience through setbacks. -Experience developing dashboards or interactive tools for communicating technical findings to non-technical audiences.
