Overview

Ensures safety policies, conducts inspections, training, and investigations for utility operations.

Tasks

-Participates in regulatory agency and internal safety audits. -Facilitates site visits for senior leadership. -Interprets regulatory agency standards for stakeholders. -Reviews requests for new tools and personal protective equipment. -Provides recommendations for improving safety in the workplace. -Submits safety observations and status reports on a regular basis. -Acts as a liaison between management and external safety agencies. -Promotes safety program participation to employees. -Enforces all safety policies, procedures, and standards. -Supports public safety or community outreach programs. -Communicates safety messages to assigned groups. -Educates and trains employees on safety policies, procedures, standards, and expectations. -Assists with the creation and implementation of safety plans and programs. -Investigates accidents, analyzes possible causes, and assists with the development of mitigation and remediation measures. -Conducts safety walks and inspections to analyze safety risks and identify concerns. -Maintains, reviews, and revises safety policies and procedures.

What You Bring

-Knowledge of water and electric utility construction and operation techniques and processes. -Appropriate respirator medical certification, fit testing, and training required. -Ability to orally communicate effectively to large and small groups at all levels of the corporate hierarchy. -Ability to communicate effectively in writing. -Ability to evaluate work environments for potential health hazards. -Knowledge of best safe working practices, industrial hygiene principles, and safety management techniques. -Ability to recognize psychological factors relating to safe group and individual behavior. -Ability to conduct employee and public education and training programs. -Ability to interpret blueprints and engineering schematics. -Skill in using a variety of instruments for measuring environmental safety. -Knowledge of OSHA compliance standards, National Electrical Safety Codes, and other workplace safety regulations as they apply to water and electric utilities.
