Tasks

-Review and interpret architectural, electrical, and mechanical drawings to develop complete fire alarm designs -Assist with estimating fire alarm systems and budget development -Stay up to date on industry best practices, technologies, and evolving code requirements -Coordinate security system scope with internal teams or subcontractors -Produce accurate and code-compliant CAD drawings and documentation for submittals and permitting -Design complete fire alarm systems, including layout drawings, risers, wiring schematics, and equipment schedules -Prepare and coordinate full submittal packages for review by clients and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) -Ensure compliance with NFPA 72, NEC, IBC, local codes, and project specifications -Act as a liaison with AHJs during permitting and inspection processes -Collaborate with internal teams (sales, project management, technicians) to ensure design intent and installation alignment -Manage and coordinate work of external design subcontractors to ensure quality, timeliness, and code compliance -Provide conceptual designs for integrated security systems (access control, CCTV, intrusion detection)

What You Bring

-Familiarity with integrated life safety and low-voltage systems -High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Drafting, or related field preferred -Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD (Revit and Bluebeam experience a plus) -Knowledge of estimating tools and value engineering methods -Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in fire alarm system design -Experience developing submittals, riser diagrams, and system calculations -Excellent attention to detail, time management, and communication skills -Strong working knowledge of NFPA 72, NEC, IFC, and local codes -NICET Level III certification in Fire Alarm Systems (required) -Demonstrated ability to manage external design subcontractors or drafting resources -Valid Texas Alarm Planning Superintendent (APS) license -Experience designing or estimating electronic security systems (CCTV, access control, intrusion)
