Data Scientist (Utility Planning/AI)

Booth & Associates

The Role

Overview

Develop AI-driven forecasting, data pipelines, and Power BI dashboards for utility planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • data strategy
  • etl pipelines
  • forecasting models
  • power bi
  • scenario analysis
  • kpi dashboards

Tasks

-Advise utilities on data warehouse/lake/lakehouse strategy, modeling, and governance to maximize ROI. -Build user-facing tools that integrate power systems logic with analytics to help clients evaluate options, trade-offs, and risk. -Optimize peak demand planning and renewable resource integration to support client decarbonization goals. -Design robust pipelines and ELT/ETL patterns that integrate operational (OT) and enterprise (IT) data. -Build and operationalize economic, rate, and load forecasting models using machine learning and deep learning. -Work closely with electrical engineers, planners, finance, and regulatory teams; translate complex insights into clear executive narratives and recommendations. -Run scenario analysis for rate changes, consumer growth, and weather events; quantify financial impacts and risks. -Apply RAG, prompt engineering (e.g., CoT, ToT), and LLM-enabled retrieval to engineering and planning workflows. -Collaborate with our international sister companies within the broader VINCI network of companies -Build performant models (DAX, Power Query/M, star schemas), implement RLS/security, and establish versioning and refresh strategies. -Partner with client leaders to define KPIs and decision flows; ship dashboards that inform senior leadership and board discussions and drive measurable action. -Lead the design, development, and governance of Power BI dashboards and semantic models for executives, operations, planning, and regulatory reporting. -Deliver high-visibility initiatives such as EV adoption forecasting, customer segmentation, targeted marketing campaigns, and causal impact evaluation of energy efficiency/DER programs.
