Engineer III - Traffic Engineer
Hntb
The Role
Overview
Design, analyze, and manage traffic engineering projects and deliver technical reports.
Key Responsibilities
- microsimulation
- signal timing
- traffic management
- data analysis
- vissim modeling
- team coordination
Tasks
-Responsible for development of discipline specific engineering project elements/deliverables such as reports, designs, and plans. -Independently progresses the majority of designs and tasks required of the discipline. -Assist in the development of project specifications. -Develop and refine microsimulation and capacity analysis models to support alternatives analysis, intersection design, and corridor studies. -Optimizing work processes by using knowledge of the most effective and efficient ways to get things done with a focus on continuous improvement. -Assists with coordination and planning of schedules, hours, and distribution of work within discipline. -Mentor junior staff by providing technical guidance in modeling workflows, QA/QC procedures, and data management best practices. -Perform data-driven evaluations utilizing statistical and analytical methods to interpret traffic counts, travel time data, crash data, and turning movement volumes for project decision-making. -Completes assigned work within the schedule and number of hours provided. -Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineering project team members. -Aids in the coordination and productivity of project team members. -Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation summarizing methodologies, findings, and recommendations for agency and client review, -Lead the preparation of traffic management plans (TMPs), maintenance and protection of traffic (MPT) strategies, and detour analyses to ensure safe and efficient work zone operations. -Works closely with other disciplines and on multi-discipline projects. -Conduct advanced traffic operations analyses using tools such as PTV VISSIM, Synchro, and HCS, including model calibration, validation, and performance evaluation for complex roadway networks. -Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams—including planning, design, and construction—to integrate traffic engineering solutions within broader transportation projects. -Managing time, proactively forecasting, and communicating project development needs. -Performs quality control reviews of discipline - specific engineering project elements/deliverables. -Design, optimize, and implement traffic signal timing plans and phasing strategies to enhance corridor efficiency, reduce congestion, and improve multimodal safety.
