Transmission Planning and Interconnection Study Engineer (Jr-Sr)

Overview

Conduct transmission studies (power flow, stability, short‑circuit) on 138 kV+ systems with PSS/E/TARA.

Tasks

-Will prepare steady state, short circuit and dynamic models -Will use PSS/e and TARA to conduct voltage ride-through and critical clearing time analysis for generator interconnection studies related to upcoming renewable -Congestion analysis/cost modeling studies or cluster feasibility Studies across various ISOs (MISO, CAISO, PJM, SPP or other ISOs) -Will offer technical consultations and oversee the process of new generation interconnection requests throughout the planning cycle. -Will conduct and review system impact studies, analyzing steady-state load flow and transient stability performance, as well as performing reactive planning, Load Interconnection studies, and mitigation planning. -Will support senior engineer in preparing technical reports. -Will perform power system analysis for 138 kV and above transmission system, including power flow, voltage stability, transient stability and short circuit analyses.

What You Bring

-Must have 6+ years of power systems analysis experience using PSS/E, TSAT or PSLF -Proficient with the PSS®E software package, including all modules for load-flow, short-circuit and transient stability analysis. Experience with alternative planning software applications, including TARA, PSLF, DigSILENT, or DSA Tools, is highly desirable -Basic knowledge of substation layout and protection and control -Knowledge of reliability and interconnection of the transmission system. -EMT study using PSCAD or EMTP -Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills -Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering -Understanding of ISO cluster interconnection process -Experience in the following: -Knowledge in electric power system, synchronous generator, motor, power electronic inverters, wind turbines and solar. -Experience with ISO transmission stability analysis is huge plus -Experience with transmission studies on power flow, voltage stability, and other power system analyses. -Background in static and dynamic modelling of power systems components in PSS/E or DSA tools, including HVDC, VSC, Static Var Compensators, STATCOM and Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitors. -Stability study using PSS/E -PSS/E model development and IPLAN and/or Python programming is an asset
