Tasks

-Produce and review detailed 3D models and engineering drawings using SolidWorks (AutoCAD 3D or Inventor experience also considered). -Maintain compliance with all internal quality, safety, and environmental standards. -Perform detailed hand calculations, including stress analysis, load assessments, and joint design evaluations. -Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support to project managers, fabricators, and site teams. -Report directly to the Head of Design, working closely with the Engineering Manager and Project Leads to ensure cohesive project delivery. -Liaise with fabrication and workshop teams to ensure manufacturability and adherence to welding and fabrication standards. -Mentor and support other mechanical designers within the team, sharing technical expertise and promoting best practices in design, documentation, and review. -Lead the design and development of mechanical components and assemblies from initial concept through to manufacture and installation (“cradle to grave”). -Apply and interpret relevant British and international design standards (BS, EN, ISO).

Sheffield – Office-Based (with Occasional Site Visits) We are seeking a proactive and highly skilled Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to take a key role within our client’s growing Design Team. Based at the Sheffield office, you will lead mechanical design projects from concept through to completion, ensuring practical and efficient solutions are delivered to the highest standards. -Strong capability in manual hand calculations and practical mechanical design. -Familiarity with FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation). -A collaborative mindset with the ability to mentor and develop junior team members. -Proven experience in mechanical design engineering, ideally within infrastructure, fabrication, or heavy engineering. -Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering. -Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills. -Proficient in SolidWorks (preferred), with AutoCAD 3D or Inventor also considered. -Familiarity with industry standards (BS, EN, ISO). -Experience in infrastructure or construction-based mechanical design. -In-depth understanding of welding principles, fabrication methods, and manufacturing processes.
