Urban Planner

Description

• Manage complex planning and urban design projects for municipalities, Indigenous Communities and private sector clients;
• Design, lead and manage Stakeholder, Public and Indigenous Engagement Programs, prepare and deliver presentations, reports and other project-related deliverables;
• Pursue client business, identify opportunities, promote urban and community planning services, develop relationships, and generate business through client development and preparation of proposals.
• Lead development of feasibility studies, master plans and strategies;
• Lead development and permit approval applications;
• Mentor colleagues, develop skills of the existing team members and act as a senior point of reference on technical matters.
• Analyze, summarize and provide technical planning advice for urban and regional planning projects, based on interpretation of applicable policy and legislation;
• Develop and administer work plans, schedules and budgets to advance projects, and coordinate the work of project team members and sub-consultants;
• Prepare and present plans, reports and other findings to public and private clients, advisory boards, representatives of public agencies and elected officials;

Requirements

• Knowledge and experience working with MS Office (Project), GIS (ArcUrban, ArcGis), Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop);
• Full membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) and the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI);
• IAP2 training
• Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Planning, or related field with 4+ years’ of relevant experience.
• Demonstrated experience in client relationship management, project management and team management;

• Excellent written and oral presentation skills;

• Excellent knowledge and experience working with MS Office (Word, Excel and Powerpoint);

• Demonstrated experience working on First Nations /Indigenous/Northern Community Planning projects, and commitment to engaging with Indigenous ways of knowing;
• Knowledge, experience and /or passion for climate resilient communities;
• Excellent written skills. Able to structure, write and coordinate reports and deliverables that are clear and easy to understand.
• Excellent communication skills. Able to lead meetings, work across cultures and sectors, and respectfully guide and direct discussions.
• Superior interpersonal skills including relationship building, communication at all levels and an ability to work collaboratively across integrated teams both within the Urbanism + Planning Practice and other key market sectors;
• Strong knowledge of and experience in applying planning policy and regulations in Ontario, including the Provincial Policy Statement, the Growth Plan, official plans and zoning by-laws;
• Strong portfolio of projects demonstrating excellent technical capabilities with a focus on the delivery of high quality planning;
• A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel out of Ontario on project work.
• High level user GIS (e.g., ArcUrban, ArcGis),
• Demonstrated record of successful project delivery from proposal development to completion, on time and budget;
• 10+ years’ experience in planning, ideally with both private sector and public sector experience;
