Wsp
The Role
Overview
Lead stormwater/river hydraulic modelling projects and mentor junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- hydraulic modelling
- icm/tuflow
- gis integration
- model verification
- client liaison
- mentoring
Tasks
-Actively seeks feedback from clients and communicate this to the team to ensure successful delivery of projects and lessons learnt. -Completes tasks within allocated timeframes and budgeted hours. -Successfully supports, coaches and mentors hydraulic modelling professionals to achieve a good standard of hydraulic modelling, embedding a culture of successful project delivery whilst also holding them to account, reducing re-work and supporting the continuous growth of the WSP stormwater or river hydraulic modelling capability. -Carries out project works in accordance with our Integrated Management System (IMS). Work alongside project managers and junior team members to ensure efficient delivery. Delivers through teams, not individually. -Ensure projects and variations are scoped and priced in a manner that will ensure commercial success and that respond to the specific risk profile of the project. -Ensures project related quality processes are carried out (technical reviews, verification, approval to release etc.) in a timely and cost-effectively manner. -Leads the technical delivery of a stormwater or river hydraulic modelling. Applies hydraulic principles for river and/or stormwater infrastructure planning, including stormwater networks, culverts, bridges, and open channel and 2D surface flow for clients using Innovyze ICM or Tuflow software for modelling projects and tasks, including preparation of reports, figures and other documents to a high level of grammatical and technical presentation. -Applies sound engineering judgement to resolve modelling anomalies to improve overall modelling confidence and communicates all risks and limitations on use of hydraulic models to the project team and the client. -Solves problems effectively by applying knowledge of hydraulics and engaging sound problem solving techniques and appropriate analysis to find value engineered/innovative solutions. -Interprets and manipulates geospatial datasets for hydraulic modelling using ArcGIS or QGIS. -Undertakes appropriate verification of all inputs and outputs on hydraulic modelling projects. -Undertakes appropriate verification of projects and team members’ work. -Develops hydrologic models and urban hydrology for use in hydraulic modelling. -Interprets hydraulic models and outputs for infrastructure planning. -Builds and maintains strong, trusted relationships with clients. -Develops and maintains an extensive network of industry contacts in India and NZ (as a minimum) and is readily able to access key people. -Hold focused meetings that achieve appropriate outcomes at key times; Deliver engaging, informative well-organized presentations; Create opportunities to share learnings, improvements, new tools, better practices etc with the wider water team. -Liaise and work closely with Sector leadership and peer groups across India and New Zealand; Act as a brand ambassador of GCC within WSP in India across geographies. -Ensures all technical risks are understood, managed, assigned to the organisation best placed to manage the risk, and these are well communicated with the project team, and/or client. -Considering risks to client’s business or reputation as part of the planning and management of projects. -Uses Innovyze ICM and/or Tuflow software to build, update or test options/scenarios for river and/or stormwater systems. This includes model schematisation, assessment of model inputs and gap analysis, model build, validation and calibration, system performance assessment, and floodplain and hazard mapping. -Writes and supports bids that are commercially astute, recognises and manages commercial risks while demonstrating value to the client. -Ensures that confidentiality is respected and maintained at all times. -Delivering excellent service to clients to promote repeat and uncompetitive work. -Provides regular feedback to team members in a constructive and timely manner. -Works without supervision, direct others and ensures their work is verified by an appropriate professional.
