The Role

Overview

Manage housekeeping, laundry and maintenance to ensure a safe, clean environment for residents and staff.

Tasks

-Maintenance of records, statistics, and reports in accordance with home policies, and all applicable legislation and standards. -Support the Executive Director in the hiring and performance management of departmental staff; staff development, including identification and delivery of department-specific orientation and training. -Manage all aspects of management of quality and quantity of services and products provided and produced by departmental staff. -Document and implement the preventative maintenance programs. -Preparation and management of departmental budgets; inventory management and control, including purchase of departmental supplies and equipment. -Observe and monitor all areas of the facility for ongoing general maintenance and servicing requirements and carries out repairs as required. -Supervision of contractors’ work to ensure fulfilment of contractual obligations. -Perform mechanical maintenance and repairs to equipment as well as mechanical plumbing and electrical systems. -Refer problems requiring specialized work to outside contractors and monitors work performed and obtain approval to do such. -Other jobs around the facility as need be to follow procedures and policies regarding the upkeep of the home including groundskeeping.

What You Bring

-Experience in management of human and financial resources an asset -Ability to meet physical and safety requirements of the job (standing for long periods, bending, lifting, etc.) -Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, plumbing, carpentry and heating and ventilation systems -Knowledge of evidence-based practices and/or, if there are none, prevailing practices relating to housekeeping, laundry and maintenance, as applicable -Knowledge and application of departmental safety program as part of your daily duties. -Ability to communicate effectively in both English and French preferred. -Experience in a maintenance role within a resident or guest building with long-term care setting, preferred. -Ability to complete a vulnerable sector check. -Ability to workday shifts with some on call capabilities. -Full participation in leadership team activities and responsibilities, including participation on teams and committees, and reporting. -Two-year post-secondary diploma or degree in Environmental Services/Building Services Management or related field -Experience in a managerial or supervisory capacity.
