Tasks

The Residential Accounting Manager provides leadership and supervision to the accounting team within an affordable housing management environment. This role fosters a collaborative and team-oriented culture while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness of all financial reporting. The Manager works closely with the Senior Manager of Residential Accounting to ensure property financials are accurate and that audit, tax return, and reporting deadlines are consistently achieved. -Partner with the Senior Manager of Residential Accounting to develop and maintain effective accounting procedures, internal controls, and compliance practices specific to affordable housing programs. -Guide accounting staff through year-end audit and tax return preparation; coordinate with external auditors and tax professionals. -Ensure compliance with all operating, management, regulatory, mortgage, and partnership agreements applicable to affordable housing portfolios. -Monitor month-end close to ensure accuracy of financials and compliance with internal deadlines and external reporting requirements. -Calculate and distribute excess cash from properties to owners and lenders in accordance with agreements. -Oversee all external reporting, including HUD, investor, lender, and regulatory agency requirements. -Train, mentor, and supervise assigned accounting staff, fostering professional growth and team collaboration. -Support business needs and department objectives through additional accounting and reporting duties as assigned.

What You Bring

This position is not fully remote. Candidates must reside in Rochester, NY or within commuting distance to maintain in-office presence (1-2 X per week). While some remote work is permitted, regular in-office attendance is an essential function of the role. The Rochester Resource Center will serve as your base office. -Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. -Excellent customer service skills to interact effectively with employees, external lenders, investors, auditors, and regulatory agencies. -Minimum 5 years of relevant accounting experience required, preferably in property management, affordable housing, or real estate. -Proactive problem solver with the ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions. -Yardi experience preferred but not required. -Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. -Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with property management/accounting software a plus. -37.5 Hours per Week -Willingness to work overtime as required, particularly during peak reporting cycles (January–April). -Prior supervisory or team lead experience strongly preferred. -Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex financial matters.

Benefits

The salary range for this position is $100,000.00 - $125,000. The actual compensation may vary depending on a wide range of factors, including experience, skills, qualifications, certifications, location, etc. This range does not include additional forms of compensation such as bonuses.
