Tasks

May signal the concrete deliverer to position the truck to facilitate pouring. Observe flat drawings or diagrams and understand how they would look like solid objects. A Civil Helper will assist the journeyman to complete tasks. They may lay out, assemble, and assist in complex tasks. Helpers learn mathematical functions and know their applications per their designated craft. They are also able to properly identify and receive instruction on the proper and safe use of, hand tools, power tools, equipment, and their procedures. We do this by carefully managing the details and complexities of each project and communicating constantly with all team members. Assist with erecting, handrails, walkways, and gangways in conjunction with formwork. May mix cement or epoxy grouts using a concrete mixing machine or hoe. Assist with tie rebar. Work within precise standards of accuracy. -Uses carpentry hand tools such as hammers, levels, squares, screwdrivers, adjustable, wrenches, hand and power saws, drill motors, and pry bars. -May build or reinforce forms or bracing before pours. -Participate in workplace inspections. -Assist with preparing the layout of the form or fixture to be fabricated using lines or grades. -Assist with bolt or screw sections together. -May assist in welding reinforcing bars together, using arc-welding equipment. -Responsible for refusing unsafe work and for carrying out all work by the established Yates Safety Procedures and Work Practices -Assist with setting up hoisting equipment for raising and placing scaffold components. -Participate in required and assigned training. -Using hand and power tools, assist with fabricating and caring for rigging, such as slings, tackle, and ladders. -Assists in determining the number, size, shape, and locations of reinforcing rods from blueprints, sketches, and oral instructions. -May load and unload scaffold components and equipment. -Safety Responsibilities and Expectations Responsible for refusing unsafe work and for carrying out all work by the established Yates Safety Procedures and Work Practices Report all incidents, near hits, and hazards to management. Required to wear and maintain personal PPE. Advise fellow employees of hazardous situations. Participate in workplace inspections. Comply with statutory requirements, including duty of care. Participate in required and assigned training. Provide suggestions to improve Safety. Present a mature approach to working safely. Attend prestart and Safety meetings and contribute. -Report all incidents, near hits, and hazards to management. -Assist with polishing the surface using a power surfacing machine -Loads, transport, and unloads material, tools, equipment, and supplies. -Assist with setting forms for alleys, streets, driveways, sidewalks, ADA ramps, inlets, curbs, and concrete structure improvements. -Provide suggestions to improve Safety. -Maintaining and up-keep scaffolding materials, in proper order -Safely operates power vibrators to ensure the concrete is compacted. -Nails cleats (braces) across boards to construct concrete-supporting forms. -Assist with erecting and dismantling scaffolding; inspect and sort scaffolding as required. -May assist in lifting, positioning, and securing material and work pieces during installation. -Advise fellow employees of hazardous situations. -Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of scaffold components using plumb bob, level, or other instruments. -Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools -May perform minor maintenance or cleaning activities of tools and equipment. -Assist with pouring smoothing and leveling concrete using a rake, trowel, float, and screed. -Assist with operating a transit/level to set the grade for paving forms, establish the sub-grade, and set the grade pens for the finished concrete grade. -Follow Yates Code of Conduct -Assist with assembling and installing supporting structures, rigging, hoists, and pulling gear, using hand and power tools. -Assist with placing and finishing concrete to the correct grade to ensure proper drainage and smooth ride quality that adheres to all City, State, and Federal Standards. -Compare and see differences in the size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects. -Positions and secures steel bars in concrete forms to reinforce concrete. -Attend prestart and Safety meetings and contribute.

What You Bring

-Personal hand tools required for craft as established on the Yates Industrial Minimum Tool List -Moderate to high noise levels -Successful completion of required Safety training to include, but not limited to, Confined Space, LOTO, and Working at Heights -Other verified experiences or certifications with civil craft experience -All weather conditions at varying temperatures -Apply basic mathematical skills. -Zero (0) to eleven (11) months of heavy industrial-related civil experience -Must have the ability to read and interpret instructions and documentation -Ability and assist with selecting scaffold component sizes and types and related materials, such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to specifications. -Ability to talk and hear to communicate -Required to wear and maintain personal PPE. -Thirty-six (36) + months of heavy industrial-related civil experience -Verifies accuracy of structure with transit, plumb bob, square, and level. -Must be able to lift, carry, and move heavy objects up to 25 lbs. -Twelve (12) to twenty-three (23) months of heavy industrial-related civil experience -Ability to select gear, such as cables, pulleys, and winches, according to load weight and size, facilities, and work schedule. -Ability to hear bells, whistles, and alarms -Required to wear safety-approved body harnesses when working at 4’ or above -Will work in windy and dusty environments -Required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, climbing, and lifting -Twenty-four (24) to thirty-five (35) months of heavy industrial-related civil experience -One (1) year of industrial experience -Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception, and peripheral vision -Level IV: Competent to complete Journeyman level Civil Craft tasks with minimal supervision. -Present a mature approach to working safely.
