The Role

Overview

Weld structural steel, read blueprints, operate equipment, mentor apprentices

Tasks

-Rig, hoist and move materials to and from workstation. Performs crane checks daily prior to use to ensure the crane is in working condition, if applicable. -Set up and operate various equipment such as torches, drills, various clamping tools, squares, disc grinders and other hand held tools. -Ensure safe work practices are adhered to and appropriate PPE is worn at all times. -Lay out reference points and symbols on the structural steel according to the blueprint. -Assembling and welding Structural Steel. -Operate welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as flux-cored arc welding. -Values in Action (ViA)- participating in charity events coordinated by employees. As well as team bonding activities. -Mentors apprentices and junior fitters by sharing knowledge and safe work practices.

What You Bring

-Organization Skills and the ability to be flexible in managing changing priorities. -Knowledge of Health and Safety procedures. -A team player, who can interrelate and operate effectively with peers and other associates within a collegial, yet demanding, work environment. -Communication skills – both written and oral. -RRSP Matching. -Ability to read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols. -Ability to operate overhead cranes. -Completion of three year apprenticeship program in Metal Fabrication or Welding is an asset. -Attention to detail and high level of accuracy. -Ability to read a tape measure in both metric and imperial. -Ability to weld with Fluxcore and sub-arc. -Analytical and problem solving skills. -Minimum 5 years of welding structural steel experience.
