Tasks

-Manage the Winter/Summer planned maintenance programme and ensure it is fully delivered -Participate in the Leats activities as an active member of the Leats Team -Responsible for the abandoned mines that SWW own in the leats operating area, ensuring public safety -Deliver required activities to maximise water available from the Leats, to support hydro power generation and drinking water supplies -Ensure the Leats team activities are compliant with South West Water’s water quality and environmental objectives -First-line management of the Leats team to ensure the health & safety outputs defined by South West Water’s Homesafe policy are met -Optimise team performance by appropriate provision of resources and supplies through effective requisitioning and purchasing -Public liaison with landowners, members of the public and organisations such as SW Lakes Trust and Dartmoor National Park Authority -Liaise with the Hydro Maintenance Manager and Process & Asset Optimisation Manager to support the planning and scheduling of routine and complex work, includes organisation of specialist plant and equipment through local suppliers to ensure efficient and effective work delivery in the field -Engage with external surveyors and contractors to ensure SWW assets are maintained to protect public safety -Manage the SWW Leats Team, responsible for the maintenance of the leats and canals that feed SWW’s hydro and drinking water assets -Assist Hydro Maintenance Manager in building business cases to obtain capital investment. -Ensure effective management of labour, equipment, and materials to optimise efficiency -Responsible for Devonport leat maintenance budget -Liaison with SWW biodiversity team to identify and resolve invasive non-native species -Deputise for Hydro Maintenance Manager when required

What You Bring

-Previous experience of working in a delivery focused environment -Previous experience in the field of building, repairing & maintenance of watercourses etc -Understanding of COSHH regulations & the transporting of hazards substances -Requirement to adhere to Risk Assessments and SSOW -Previous experience of operating plant and equipment including power tools and small machinery -Experience of working in a team and an understanding of the importance of teamwork -5 GCSEs or equivalent in Maths, English and a Science subject -National Diploma in Countryside Management (or awareness) -Strong understanding of abstraction licenses and impounding licenses -A full UK Driving Licence to include classifications B & E (Towing) -Proven experience of working with computers and software packages -Understanding of how maintenance work may have an environmental impact
