Senior electrical design engineer for HV/LV systems in water/wastewater projects.

Tasks

-Selection and appraisal of suppliers and their design submissions. -Assist in ensuring procedural governance is adhered to. -Take responsibility for personal development and enable and support the learning of others. -Provide technical compliance and quality on design outputs. Default checker for design outputs to ensure technical assurance and quality control. -Operate as discipline lead for a project. -Working as part of the Design team to ensure full compliance with relevant Health, Safety and Environmental Legislation. -Technical problem solving throughout the project life cycle (e.g. from concept design through to final construction support), moreover, to ensure that potential issues are identified, mitigated and or safely managed through technical governance and risk and opportunity management. -Developing and supporting staff to encourage them towards accreditation with professional bodies (e.g., ICE, IET, IMechE, IChemE) -Assist the Principal Designer Lead in ensuring CDM regulations compliance. -Provide leadership, direction and encouragement to the design team. -Seek optimal solutions/efficient designs that balance capital and operational cost benefits. -Assist with pre-contract design activities. -Provide lessons learnt on projects to the Design Team and Discipline Design Manager(s), covering good and bad to feedback to be promoted or avoided on future schemes. -Working as part of the Design team to ensure scheme designs adhere to client specifications and standards. -Line Management of multi-disciplinary Design Engineers. -Design for buildability, safe construction, and operation, working alongside project delivery peers. -Promoting innovation, value engineering and digital design.

What You Bring

-Excellent knowledge of multi-disciplinary engineering design in water engineering. -Competent in generating electrical installation packs, including but not limited to HV & LV cable calculations, single line diagrams, cable block diagrams, termination details & cable schedules. -Ability to organise and prioritise workload to ensure that timescales are met. -Preference for Chartered Member of a recognised professional Engineering body. -Ability to work independently and as part of a team. -Proficient in the use of modelling software such as ETAP to carry out HV & LV modelling, including the completion of protection & grading studies, system load flow and short circuit calculations -Competent with strong experience in checking & approving discipline design packages. -Strong problem-solving skills. -Able to recognise own impact on others and adapt approach where appropriate. -Attention to detail. -Competent with strong experience in reviewing subcontractors’ documentation. -Sharing and imparting knowledge to our teams, this is essential, as is the need to mentor and develop our expanding design team. -Experience of working in accordance with QA and H&S procedures. -Educated to Degree level in Engineering or other equivalent qualification preferable. -Willingness and commitment to embrace innovations to assist the business. -Proficient with AutoCAD/Draftsight. -Demonstrable experience of + 7 years working within the Municipal Water and Wastewater industries, working with a variety of clients. -Able to work collaboratively with others to form strong positive working relationships with colleagues and clients. -Knowledge of C&G 2382-18 BS7671 18th Edition Wiring Regulations, NICEIC Electrical Installation Certificates and HV standards & compliance. -Excellent IT skills – with experience of using Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Cost / Performance management systems. -Competent in a contracting / consulting environment, with commercial awareness. -Excellent Communication and Stakeholder management skills. -Competent in generating layouts for electrical switch rooms, cable routes & substations. -Competent in the organisation & management of consultants in the formulation of earthing design & studies. -Knowledge of current H&S legislation and British Standards and experience in applying them across designs. -Good negotiation and persuading skills.
