Tasks

-Customer Support: Conduct studies and ensure compliance for customer and distributed generation interconnections, offering technical guidance to customer groups. -Participate in the development of standards and procedures. -Manage (assisted) consultant contracted work, ensuring compliance and technical adequacy against company standards and project scope. -Lead (assisted) multi-disciplined engineering team, providing support to project manager and project delivery process, to deliver project assignments. -Perform engineering calculations and studies to support project scope. -System Planning & Asset Management: Provide strategic direction for immediate and long-term planning of sub-transmission and distribution systems to enhance resilience and meet capacity requirements. -Reliability Performance: Track and enhance regional distribution and sub-transmission reliability, promoting actions for improvement. -Support construction and project closeout activities. -Prepare comprehensive written and oral reports of technical challenges, investigative findings, and recommended solutions. -Perform preliminary engineering evaluations, develop project scope and schedule to support business strategy and capital investments. -Process Improvement: Proactively identify and implement changes to enhance performance, efficiency, and effectiveness of engineering processes. -Problem Solving: Take responsibility for addressing issues promptly and effectively, while maintaining strong communication with stakeholders -Collaboration: Work with various National Grid departments, including Electric Operations, Regional Control Centers and Distribution Design, to support integration of distributed generation, deployment of grid modernization, customer centric solutions and compliance with regulatory requirements. -Review drawings associated with projects, including manufacturers' equipment. -Interface with internal design staff on construction document development.

What You Bring

-Knowledge of relevant industry practice, standards and legislation including technical advancements -6+years of related experience (5+ with Master of Science degree or PE), with specific experience in transmission, distribution, or substation engineering. -Working knowledge of industry standards, safety standards, and existing electrical design codes including put not limited to: substation construction and maintenance practices, electric utility practices, substation materials and equipment, grounding and lightning study analysis, IEEE, ANSI, NFPA 70, ASTM, NEC, and NESC codes. -Strong working knowledge of industry standards, safety standards, and current design codes, especially the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC). -Excellent verbal and written communication skills. -A Master's degree or Professional Engineer in Training Certificate (EIT) or Engineering (PE) license is preferred for some roles. -Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Civil/Structural, or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited school. -Willingness to travel for meetings, training, and conferences, including potential extended hours for emergencies or system events -Proficient Microsoft Office computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). -Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
