Tasks

-Effectively communicate with personnel at a management level and outside the company. -May assist in or develop Bid and Proposal efforts including cost estimating, technical approach definition, and input to baseline schedule data. -Interface with Purchasing Department, Technical Staff, and vendors as required to develop Job Material Lists as a result of Condition Reports. -Provide recommended resolution and approval authority to conditions reported on CRs. -Review/approve Engineering Change documents (e.g. CRs, LARs, DFSs) related to project. -Prepare LARs for submittal to the applicable Planning Yard. -Review/approve Engineering designs, models, drawings and calculation packages. -Provide support in the determination of technical accuracy and evaluation of requests for drawing requirement clarification/drawing revision to onsite production personnel. -May participate in or lead Technical Working groups to assist and improve processes and capabilities. -Provide process improvement recommendations to the Waterfront Engineering Manager. -Develop engineering sketches or drawings in support of technical solutions. -Read, understand, and interpret blueprints, drawings, schematics, and specifications of testing requirements for all contracts. -Review progress and evaluate results of work accomplished by self and others. -Produce DFSs for submission to NAVSEA.

What You Bring

-Independently performs moderate to difficult engineering tasks to completion that may include a variety of complex features, conflicting design requirements, unusual materials requirements, and the need to coordinate the work of others. -Background knowledge in government and commercial contract requirements. -Working knowledge of the following: Scope of Certification (SOC), DDS Specifications, SUBSAFE, Material Control (SOC, , L1); JFMM Requirements for Deviations, Waivers, LARs, etc.; shipboard HM&E systems (repair/installation practices, procedures, alignments, troubleshooting, etc.), blue prints, MILSPEC, Mil-Std, ISO/ASME requirements. -Good technical judgment and independent evaluation, originality and ingenuity are expected. -Ability to synthesize diverse information (technical, schedule) and exercise good judgment. -Ability to supervise a small team of technical personnel and support multiple projects. -Exhibit excellent technical judgment, and appreciable independent evaluation, creativity, and latitude in making decisions are expected. -Strong organizational skills and analytical / logical approach. -Ability to read and interpret blueprints. -Ability to perform advanced engineering tasks and conventional design that may be varied in nature. -Experience involving shipboard piping systems, ship and submarine structure, and/or weapons delivery systems is desired. -Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Ocean, or Nuclear Engineering, or Naval Architecture from an accredited college or university, or 8 years of experience in relevant ship repair or Submarine Systems in lieu of a degree. -Experience with SUBSAFE program and required protocols. -Excellent verbal and written communication skills. -Strong computer skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite and PeopleSoft experience is a plus. -Self-motivated, focused individual with strong attention to detail and high ethical standards. -10 years of experience in military, government, defense industry, or private industry in progressively more complex scientific, technical, analytical, or other related areas. -Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance. -Familiarity with various COTS (Commercial off the Shelf) software, as well as US Navy software (ATIS, SVTMs, PMS, SCLSIS, PC Bolts, etc.).
