The Role

Overview

Design and oversee high‑voltage underground cable projects, providing technical support and specifications.

Tasks

-Confirm that the drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction of the works. Formally request any missing information in sufficient time to allow the program to proceed without delay -Support factory inspections Test (FAT). -Perform design reviews, and verification of design. -Perform technical calculations including cable size, rating calculations, electromechanical and thermomechanical forces and EMF calculations, heath induced voltage calculations -Confirm correct and accurate interface with other engineering functions involved in the projects, -Attend and conduct internal and external meetings with colleagues, clients, and subcontractors -Develop HV/EHV cabling systems specifications, concept/detailed design and design review, estimation, site supervision and support as required. -Confirm that inspection and test plans are completed as required by the specifications, including a check of dimension accuracy and quality -Provide technical support to the team on all aspects of HV cable system engineering and design. -Prepare specifications power cable route specifications, and reports and progress reports

What You Bring

-Knowledge of applicable industry standards such as IEC, IEEE and CIGRE. -Experience with HVDC and subsea cable technologies -Active/ongoing involvement in power cable related working groups and standards committees such as ICC or CIGRE -Ability to work with cable design software such as CYMCAP. -Experience working with major global cable OEMs. -Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical or related engineering discipline, from a recognized institution. Master’s degree is preferred. -Professional Engineer (PE or PEng) License or ability to obtain within 6 months -Ability and willingness to travel within North America. -Minimum 8 years of direct experience with underground and/or subsea cable design and installation.
