The Role

Overview

Perform on‑site testing of concrete, soils, asphalt and related materials for FDOT projects.

Tasks

-Report data in an accurate, complete, timely, and understandable fashion by applicable testing procedures -Return samples to the office for testing -Turn in required paperwork daily -Communicate with dispatching and/or field supervisor, advising of current job status and locations as required; cellular phones are to be worn at all times, and calls are to be returned immediately -Complete daily time and labor reports according to company policy -Ensure that project testing requirements are met and compliant with project specifications, requirements, and company policies or procedures -Ensure that all testing equipment used is functioning properly, maintained as required by company and/or manufacturer's policy, and that all calibrated equipment is within its calibration cycle -Operate a motor vehicle; maintain company vehicle (schedule oil changes, check fluid levels, inside/outside upkeep) -Follows safety procedures -Operate testing equipment: ensure that all test equipment used is functioning properly and maintained as required by the company and/or manufacturer's policy and that all calibrated equipment is within its calibration cycle -Prepare testing reports using Field Data Collection (FDC) software; ability to write and retrieve emails using Microsoft Outlook -Drive to job sites and conduct testing of soil, concrete, and other construction materials

What You Bring

-Reasoning ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form -Exposure to environmental elements including dirt, dust, sun, heat, humidity, and adverse weather conditions. -Valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria), may or may not be required to perform the duties and responsibilities of the role -Must be willing to travel within the state of Florida, if applicable -Mathematical skills sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals -Ability to bend, twist, reach, stoop, pull, kneel, climb, balance, lift, carry, and push as required for fieldwork and inspections. -Ability to read and write, including interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as writing routine reports and correspondence and speaking effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers/clients -Ability to speak and hear effectively to communicate in noisy environments and with project teams. -Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida’s Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification) -Moderate to loud noise levels, common in active construction and industrial environments. -Frequent use of hands and arms for typing, handling tools, and operating equipment. -Ability to stand, walk, drive, and operate equipment for extended periods. -Ability to lift and/or carry 35 to 75 lbs. up to 75 feet, involving regular repetitive motion. -CTQP Level I Certification -Earthworks Construction Inspection Certification - Level I and II -Must be flexible to changing schedules and hours to support business needs; overnight and weekend schedules may be necessary to support business needs -Computer skills sufficient to operate a laptop, including sending and receiving emails, and the ability to learn Field Data Collection (FDC)/Inspector Gadget to input data and prepare reports -Ability to use your senses to see (including close, distant, and peripheral vison, depth vision, and ability to focus) smell, hear, touch (use hands to reach climb or balance, crouch, stoop, crawl, kneel and sit). -ACI Level I Certification
