Tasks

-Prepare specifications for construction, hardware, and material for high voltage overhead transmission line (HV OH T-Line); structure design and development; hardware design and selection; and field installation supervision. -Prepare communications of the interpretation and application of necessary NERC, FERC and regional requirements and standards. -Prepare construction drawings and cost estimates for high & extra high voltage overhead transmission lines. -Additional responsibilities include providing instruction and guidance to less experienced staff members. This position may develop into a leadership role at which point this individual will be expected to lead teams of engineers as well as be a primary interface between Burns & McDonnell Engineers and our clients. -Compile calculations for required electrical clearances based on NESC, GO 95 or other applicable codes and resources. -Perform and lead transmission design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion. This includes PLS-CADD modeling, line routing, structure analysis to develop load trees, developing design criteria, sag-tension calculations, wire blowout, swing angle, damper recommendations, structure spotting, clearance reports, wire selection, etc.

What You Bring

-Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills. -Knowledge of industry codes and standards, including NESC, GO95 ASCE 74, ASCE 48-11, or ASCE 10-97 -Bachelor's degree in civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. and 3 years of transmission engineering experience, consulting preferred. Required or -Strong knowledge : -Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering may be substituted for 1 year experience. -Demonstrate attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills. -Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program. and 3 years of transmission engineering experience, consulting preferred. Required or -Working level knowledge and proficiency in utilizing Design software and tools including but not limited to Bentley Power Line system based programs (i.e., PLS-CADD, PLS-TOWER, PLS-POLE, PLS-LITE), SAG 10, L-PILE, or AUTO CAD. -Proficient knowledge in standard civil/structural engineering techniques and procedures. -Possesses strong knowledge of commonly used transmission engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the transmission engineering services industry. -Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program. -3 years of transmission engineering experience, consulting preferred. -Or Bachelor of Science in Civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. -Master's degree in civil engineering and 2 years of transmission engineering experience, consulting preferred. Required -Experience as the technical lead on projects and performing quality reviews is a plus. -Excellent written and verbal communication skills. -Ability/experience performing quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications is a plus.
