You might be interacting with contractors, collaborating internally and externally on report submissions, liaising with stakeholders and communities or perhaps developing new styles of presentation to bring to life National Gas’s performance narrative.
This part of the business is responsible for delivering large-scale initiatives, from new compressor builds and control system upgrades to pipeline diversions and hydrogen/CCUS (carbon capture, utilisation and storage) projects, safely, on time, and on budget.

Along the way, you’ll develop high-level project management knowledge and practical skills, both technical and interpersonal, that will prepare you to oversee projects at National Gas. We’ll equip you to strategically and financially manage small and large-scale initiatives, ensuring they meet their targets. By the end of the programme, you’ll be confident in understanding stakeholder needs, building strong relationships, and applying ethical, professional practices to deliver results.
As the operator of Britain’s national gas transmission network, we repair and maintain gas pipelines, safely and reliably delivering gas to power stations, industries and 23 million homes.
You’ll work across key disciplines such as Pipelines, Compressions, Control Systems, and Hydrogen & CCUS, gaining a deep understanding of how these areas come together to deliver complex, large-scale projects. Along the way, you’ll develop expertise in Programme Management, Project Management, Contract Management, and Supply Chain Management.

You’ll bring strong commercial awareness and enjoy applying that mindset to real-world challenges. Communication is key, you’ll interact with contractors and project teams on site, building relationships with people from all backgrounds and levels across the business. This role is hands-on, so you’ll need to be eager to get out and about, visit our sites across the UK, and learn from skilled professionals.
This is an 18-month fixed-term graduate programme. You must have the right to work in the UK for the duration of the programme. We are unable to sponsor UK work permits for this graduate scheme, as the role does not meet the requirements set by the UK Home Office.
The sites you’ll be visiting span across the UK, so you’ll need to be comfortable with travel and overnight stays regularly. This also means that you’ll hold a full driving licence and be comfortable driving between sites.

If your online application is successful, you’ll be invited to complete a virtual solo-interview. The final stage is then an in-person Assessment Centre at our Nottingham office. Support is available towards travel costs if required.

Over the course of this 18-month programme, after your initial induction, you’ll move through three six-month placements. Each rotation will immerse you in different teams within our Major Programmes function, giving you a breadth of experience and a diverse skillset to launch your career.

You'll start in a large cohort of other graduates and apprentices, where you'll attend an in-person induction in early September 2026, fostering strong workplace relationships that will build the foundation of your future networks.

As part of our Hybrid working approach, your time will be split between office days (primarily at the Nottingham Office), site visits and working from home.
