The Role

Overview

Assist in maintenance, testing, and repair of protective relay and control systems.

Tasks

-Works on the application of a wide range of general purpose and specialized electrical and/or electronic testing equipment and instrumentation. -Submits work requests electronically when issues are found in substations. Closes out work orders electronically. Completes and submits electronic timesheet. -With direction, performs operational tests of protective relaying schemes, metering, remote control and data systems and capacitor control and protection equipment, performing the necessary tests, adjustments and repairs. -Performs NMAP scans of communication network for TCP and UDP logical ports for CIP evidence collection. -Test new patches and/or scripts for evidence collecting or security of relaying systems in substations. -Assists in scheduled inspections, tests and calibration of protective relaying devices, metering, remote control and data systems and capacitor control and protection equipment as well as in the verification of control and protective circuit diagrams. -Responds to system/equipment problems to determine operability or need for repairs. Assists in the investigation of trouble on protective relaying, metering remote control and data systems and capacitor control and protection equipment. -Maintains relay settings in settings database for compliance with North American Electric Reliability Corporation. -Interprets engineering documentation and technical specifications with regard to installation and maintenance of protective relaying schemes, metering, remote control and data systems and capacitor control and protection equipment. Assists in making field revisions to associated drawings and documentation. -Performs 13/33 KV feeder switching, grounding and tagging out equipment as required. [see note below] NOTE: The parties agree to delay this job duty until such a time a committee as defined in the side letter Joint committee for self-switching can meet and discuss the details of the self-switching program. -Is responsible for Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) compliance and verification in all substations. Completes CIP mitigation and action items that need to be executed after evidence has been processed by CIP engineering.

What You Bring

-Acquires knowledge of new protective relaying schemes, metering, remote control and data systems and capacitor control and protection equipment. -Knowledge: Working knowledge of High School mathematics up to and including trigonometry. Skills/Abilities: Satisfactory completion of the Technical Occupations Test. Demonstrated ability to operate computers and associated software. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to read and understand construction plans and information Good faith attempt to obtain and maintain security clearances required to enter secure government facilities. Ability to carry equipment weighing 60 lbs. Ability to be certified in CPR and First Aid. Valid driver's license and ability to meet Company driving standards. Demonstrated ability to write, speak, read, comprehend and communicate clearly and accurately in the English language. Must be willing and able to work overtime on a regular basis and must be available for callout overtime, if and when required, consistent with the Labor Agreement. -Education/Experience: Must possess a High School Diploma or Equivalent For external applicants, two years of related experience or post secondary education in relay and control, electronics, electrical construction or system controls, or similar technical area.
