The Role

Overview

Design, detail, and manage fire alarm systems from plans through field installation and commissioning.

Tasks

-Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies. -Compile and prepare plan submittals (shop drawings) and material submittals for review by architects, engineers, clients, and authorities having jurisdiction -Field engineering troubleshooting and support for the installation operations on the jobsite -Oversee project scheduling, onsite operations planning, quantity tracking, material fabrication and procurement -Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required. -Coordinate fire alarm and detection design with the building structure and other MEP subcontractors -Prepare “as-built” drawings for in-house archive and client files.

-High level of self-discipline, motivation, and ability to operate in a team environment -Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills -Ability to travel to construction jobsites and other office locations as the business requires up to 50%, exposed to wide-ranging climates and environments -Strong organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail -Work productively and meet deadlines timely -Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment. -Industrial, Power or similar project experienced preferred -Associates degree preferred or equivalent working experience -Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time -Be able to teach the fundamental understanding of general construction methods, practices, and terminology -Self-directed NFPA, Building, and Fire Codes research -Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity -3+ years fire alarm design experience and/or direct field experience. -NICET certification strongly preferred -Be proficient at preparing project material stocklists to be used for material procurement -Be proficient at detailing of shop drawings (field installation drawings and battery calculations), field engineering (on the jobsite support and review), and operation planning (field installation support) -Regular, reliable attendance -Experienced with AutoCAD -Be able to perform objective peer review and mentoring in a team environment -Ability to relocate to project sites for extended periods of time -Team player with the ability to work independently to meet deadlines, goals and objectives -Be proficient at designing fire alarm and detection systems -Experienced with MS Excel and Word -Be able to teach others how to read construction, engineering, architectural, and structural plans
