Tasks

-Analyze project plans, specifications, and requirements to determine the full scope of work and cost impacts. -Develop accurate takeoffs for earthwork, utilities, concrete, paving, and other self-perform civil disciplines. -Lead the preparation of detailed estimates for civil and site development projects from concept through final submission. -Support business development and client engagement efforts by providing cost insights and feasibility analyses during the early stages of project pursuit. -Prepare comprehensive bid packages, proposals, and presentations for clients and leadership. -Maintain historical cost data and implement best practices for consistent, reliable estimating. -Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field teams to identify risks, constructability challenges, and value-engineering opportunities. -Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure competitive pricing and scope alignment.

What You Bring

We are seeking an experienced Senior Civil Estimator to join our growing team in Birmingham, Alabama. The ideal candidate will bring a minimum of 10 years of estimating experience within the civil construction industry, specifically with self-perform site work such as grading, utilities, earthwork, and infrastructure projects. This is a strategic, hands-on position that plays a vital role in supporting preconstruction and operations teams to ensure accurate, competitive, and profitable project bids. -Strong ability to read and interpret civil drawings, grading plans, and specifications. -Proficient in estimating software such as HCSS HeavyBid, Agtek, or similar platforms, and Microsoft Excel. -Proven track record in heavy civil, infrastructure, or site development projects (commercial, industrial, or utility-related). -Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills. -Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred (experience may substitute for education). -In-depth understanding of earthwork quantities, production rates, materials, and cost structures. -Minimum of 10 years of civil construction estimating experience, with a strong emphasis on self-perform site work.
