The Role

Overview

Lead site operatives to safely deliver power transmission construction projects.

Tasks

-Ensure external services (trakway, footbridges, etc.) are in place before works begin. -Liaise on environmental considerations (protected sites, ecology, archaeology). -Review scopes of work with Project Managers/Engineers to agree safe systems of operation. -Provide necessary information for site security arrangements. -Attend safety forums, encourage near-miss reporting, and communicate safety alerts. -Manage the Permit to Work process for all groundbreaking activities. -Oversee timesheets, progress records, and holiday submissions. -Deliver site inductions and daily briefings; ensure correct PPE and welfare facilities are maintained. -Monitor construction progress against programme, identifying deviations and corrective actions -Only undertake or assign safety-critical tasks when competence, training, and certification are verified. -Support and develop teams through communication, encouragement, and feedback. -Supervise foremen and operatives daily, ensuring safe, efficient, and coordinated operations. -Support Engineers with weekly inspections of plant and lifting equipment, ensuring accurate records. -Maintain strong customer relationships and manage expectations during delivery. -Support continuous improvement initiatives through workshops and feedback. -Conduct MSR (Management Safety Representative) checks with Client’s MSR. -Ensure the health, safety, and welfare of all staff under supervision. -Take responsibility for personal and team safety; lead by example in promoting Zero Harm. -Coordinate requisition of plant and equipment in a timely manner. -Contribute to effective teamwork and cross-functional collaboration. -Promptly report accidents, incidents, and near misses, assisting with investigations. -Ensure timely submission of site records for final documentation. -Escalate potential issues to Engineers early. -Assist in preparing method statements, risk assessments, and work packs. -Verify personnel authorisations for plant operation and permits. -Foster fairness, respect, inclusion, and accountability across the workforce. -Promote and uphold Balfour Beatty’s Code of Conduct to ensure safe, compliant, and consistent working practices.

What You Bring

-Experience in implementing safe systems of work -Holds a current driving license -Commercial awareness with knowledge of both budgetary and financial control -Holds CSCS and SSSTS or Equivalent -Previous experience of the construction and delivery of Overhead Line, Cabling or Substation schemes up to 400kV -Excellent relationship management skills -Ability to lead, develop and motivate a team for success -Provide visible, positive leadership and model professional behaviour. -Effective Communication Skills -Good understanding of current safety legislation
