The Role

Overview

Design, develop, and manage rail traction power systems and electrification projects.

Tasks

-Provide supervision and mentoring, identifying opportunities for professional development and progression along with specific line management responsibilities for designated direct reports. -Undertake and/or supervise power system modelling work (using ETAP and TRAIN, Mott MacDonald’s multi-train simulator). -Provide input to other disciplines, including civils, SCADA LV Power, signalling and systems assurance, etc. -Formulating the scope of work, methodology and associate programme/budget to support bids. -Complete assigned tasks in accordance with quality, timescales, and budgeted hours. -Ensure all health, safety and welfare practices are adhered to. -Prepare and/or review technical reports, feasibility studies, and option selection reports. -Interface with clients (prepare and give presentations, chair meetings, etc). -Prepare and/or review outline and detailed designs for AC and DC electrification schemes, including distribution and electrical track equipment. -Foster a culture of right first-time delivery and work with Project Managers/Principals to ensure effective project delivery. -Development of functional concept design, development and review of technical solutions, specifications, cost estimates. -Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with Mott MacDonald's quality standard procedures. -Undertake/review earthing & bonding and protection studies.

What You Bring

-Experience in HV and LV cable route design -Strong interpersonal skills supporting collaborative working with colleagues. -Experience in project/contract management -Achieved or working towards Chartership -Experience in leading/coordinating the delivery of packages of work. -Agile working -Have a strong attention to detail, as well as having a logical but creative approach to problem solving. -12 -15 years’ experience in electrical engineering or equivalent in the rail industry -Experience in substation design (AC and DC) -IT skills: proficiency in usage of ETAP modelling software or similar, TRAIN simulation software or similar, BIM and associated CAD software package (AutoCAD, Bentley Open Buildings and MicroStation). -Experience in Electric track equipment design -Good working knowledge and demonstrable experience of Network Rail and Transport for London projects -Graduate/Postgraduate in Electrical Engineering -Experience in the development of electrical protection -Competent in using standard office software to produce well-presented, coherent professional documentation. -MATLAB, ETAP, C++ coding, Python -Experience with traction load flow modelling software and power system studies, and/or experience with EMC -Appreciation of environmental issues associated with rail engineering works; -Experience in traction power engineering / EMC within a rail consultancy business
