The Role

Overview

Perform field testing/inspection of HMA & PCC, ensure compliance, report results.

Tasks

-Participate in safety meetings and adhere to all safety protocols -Document and report test results accurately and in a timely manner -Monitor contractor compliance with project specifications and quality standards -Assist in resolving material-related construction issues -Support project documentation and closeout processes -Maintain and calibrate testing equipment -Perform field and plant inspections for HMA and/or PCC production and placement -Conduct sampling and testing of construction materials in accordance with applicable standards -Communicate findings and issues to project engineers and contractors

What You Bring

-Knowledge of quality control/quality assurance procedures in construction materials testing -Excellent time management and organizational skills -Familiarity with nuclear density gauges, slump cones, air meters, and other field-testing equipment -OSHA 10 or 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification -Familiarity with Caltrans or other DOT specifications and procedures. -Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, as needed -Ability to maintain accurate and timely documentation and reports -Travel up to 50% of the time, including occasional overnight stays depending on project location. -Experience working on transportation infrastructure projects (e.g., highways, bridges, airports). -Ability to work independently and as part of a team. -Valid California Driver’s License and clean driving record -OR High School Diploma or GED with 4+ years of relevant experience in construction materials testing or inspection. -Experience with data entry and reporting software (e.g., SiteManager, LIMS) -Understanding of construction materials standards (ASTM, AASHTO, Caltrans) -Minimum 2 years of professional experience in construction materials testing, inspection, or quality assurance. -Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) -Ability to pass a background check and drug screening -ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician – Grade I -Strong written and verbal communication skills. -Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety -Ability to work in various weather conditions and physically demanding environments -Nuclear Gauge Safety Certification (for HMA testing) -Experience with Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) and/or Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) plant inspection is required (minimum 1 year). -Caltrans Acceptance Tester Certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months) -Associate’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, Materials Science, or a related field.
