Groundman - Underground (DUKE)

Entry-level work constructing, maintaining, repairing underground electrical distribution systems.

Tasks

-Setting pad mount transformers. -Maintains company vehicles, equipment and tools in good working order. -Frequently works around energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others. -Works in underground trenches and manholes.

What You Bring

-Able to identify different types of materials used in line work. -Possess a basic knowledge of materials used in line work. -Able to read and communicate effectively in English. -Willing to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required for the position. -Understand the proper use and maintenance of hand tools. -Capable of installing and removing a service. -Able to travel long distances on short notice, when required. -Understand basic rigging, hand lines, and lineman knot tying. -Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs. -Able to work for extended periods in various locations, when required. -Capable of assisting with the installation and hook up of a single phase transformer. -Must be able to work outside, frequently in inclement weather. -Understands the basic concepts of equipment set up and grounding. -Capable of checking voltage on transformers. -Capable of properly inspecting rubber goods and PPE. -Understands when to wear personnel protective equipment. -Understands minimum approach distance. -Capable of receiving and following directions. -Capable of performing basic bucket rescue/escape. -Understands proper use of company radio. -Must be able to follow Company safety rules and all other Company policies -Must be able to climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) and possess the necessary tools to do so. -A Commercial Driver’s License is preferred. -Must be familiar with induced voltage. -Willing to work over-time when requested. -Able to identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit. -Able to properly inspect rubber goods and PPE. -Capable of working at heights and/or confined spaces. -Understands how and when to use Kellum grips. -Willingness to glove/work live high voltage distribution lines. -Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair work of energized and de-energized underground work. -Able to perform rigorous physical labor. -Understands excavation and shoring requirements. -Able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days of employment.
