Tasks

- Assists in the operation of portable or towed power equipment and attachments required for maintenance operations. - Performs such tasks as carrying of cement bags, shoveling of sand and/or stone, and mixing of materials while assisting in the laying of concrete, asphalt and other kinds of pavement. Under close supervision, Cleans, clears debris, and cuts grass from all assigned areas including Bridge pits, Bridge approaches, catch basins, sidewalks, roads, and tunnels. Assists in performance of general laboring work unrelated to paving operations. Assists in the installation and repair of guide rails and chain link fences properly utilizing all required equipment and tools, assists in preparation of defective areas for patching, utilizing picks and/or other equipment to break surfaces and assists in the replacement of the defective patches. Operates one or more types of motorized vehicles and assists in the use of various types of portable or towed power equipment and attachments as required in maintenance and operations. Assists in general maintenance of vehicles. Cleans interior and exterior of vehicles, changes wheels and tires and checks oil and fuel level lights, horns, and brakes. Performs general laboring work such as snow removal when weather conditions do not permit other operations. May assist in masonry work by the placing of forms during sidewalk and other concrete construction and repair work. May operate a motorized vehicle in maintenance operations and safely direct traffic around large construction projects. Performs incidental laboring tasks as directed by supervisor. May be required to work off hour and weekend shifts. - Cleans construction by the sweeping and removal of debris. - May operate a motorized vehicle in maintenance operations. - Assists in the performance of general laboring work, such as snow removal, when weather conditions do not permit paving operations. Candidates will perform general labor tasks while assisting in the repair and maintenance of roadways and arterial highways. Duties include, but are not limited to, assisting in the laying of hot-mix asphalt and other kinds of pavement; cleaning construction and repair sites by sweeping and removing debris; assisting in general roadway construction tasks, including raking, shoveling, tampering asphalt, pothole repair, mowing grass, guiderail repair, fencing, and debris removal. Assists in foundation laying and in installing shoring and sheeting for road depressions and excavations; assists in the operation of portable or towed power equipment and attachments required for maintenance operations; lays out and cares for tools needed for maintenance and repair operations; assists in loading and unloading materials, equipment, and other items. Candidates will also perform tasks such as snow removal when weather conditions prevent paving operations. Assists in general vehicle maintenance, including checks of oil and fuel levels, lights, horns, and brakes; cleans vehicle interiors and exteriors when required; performs general laboring tasks as directed by the supervisor; may use picks or other equipment to clean and prepare defective areas for patching; may operate a motorized vehicle in maintenance operations; may be required to safely direct traffic around large construction projects. - Assists in general vehicle maintenance which includes checks of oil and fuel levels, lights, horns and brakes; cleans interior and exterior of vehicles when required. - Performs general laboring tasks as directed by the supervisor. - May be required to safely direct traffic around construction projects.” - Assists in the loading and unloading of materials, equipment and other items. - Performs general laboring tasks while assisting in the repair of curbs, sidewalks, and manhole edges and in the replacement of defective patches. - Lays out and cares for tools required for maintenance and repair operations. - Performs general laboring tasks while assisting in foundation laying, and in the installation of shoring and sheeting for road depressions and excavations. - May use picks and/or other equipment in the cleaning and preparing of defective areas for patching. - May assist in bricklaying and masonry work by the placing of pavers, stones, bricks or forms during sidewalk and other concrete construction and repair work.

This license must be maintained throughout the duration of employment. -This position is subject to a pre-employment medical and drug screening, and subject to random drug testing. -No formal education or experience requirements for this position. -Must be available to work in any borough, on any shift or any tour, (days/nights)
