Geotechnical Group Leader

Overview

Lead geotechnical team, oversee investigations, designs, labs, and P&L for Texas projects.

Tasks

-Direct proposal development, scope definition, budgeting, and profitability of the department, including oversight of collections. -Partner closely with senior leadership on long-term strategy, resource planning, and market expansion. -Deliver geotechnical design recommendations aligned with AASHTO, ASTM, TXDOT, and IBC standards. -Manage all operations of the geotechnical laboratory, ensuring quality assurance and efficient data turnaround. -Oversee deep and shallow foundation analysis, slope stability evaluations, and ground improvement design using industry-standard methods and software. -Support recruiting, hiring, and professional development for your group; promote a culture of coaching, learning, and retention. -Provide strategic leadership and mentorship to geotechnical engineers, field professionals, and project managers across multiple concurrent infrastructure, commercial, and public works projects. -Maintain and grow client relationships through technical consultation, presentations, and project delivery excellence. -Review and approve geotechnical engineering reports, including analysis of CPT, borings, lab testing, and slope monitoring data.

What You Bring

-Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of Texas. -Minimum 8 years of progressive geotechnical experience, including management of technical teams and client-facing roles. -Familiarity with software tools such as GeoStudio, LPILE, Settle3, and gINT. -Technical expertise with CPT data interpretation, settlement analysis, liquefaction evaluation, and ground improvement techniques. -Excellent communication skills with the ability to coach and develop early-career engineers. -Proven ability to lead complex projects involving foundations, embankments, slope stability, earth retention systems, and CMT services. -Strong business acumen, including prior experience with group-level financial oversight, proposal writing, and client development. -Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with a focus in Geotechnical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution. -Experience applying geotechnical standards from AASHTO, ASTM, TXDOT, IBC, and other industry accredited authorities in design and reporting.
