Overview

Develop and support analytical methods for R&D and QC of specialty chemicals.

Tasks

-Effectively communicate all work with senior R&D management. -Support the Quality Control department with method troubleshooting and non-standard testing for commercial scale products. -Work with QC department to transfer new methods from analytical R&D during production scale-up of new products. -Development of high-quality analytical data using advanced instrumentation both at Gelest and when necessary, at collaborative sites (such as universities). -Support Business Segment Leaders/Commercial Team; projects across multiple business segments. -Handle customer specific analytical requests on both new and existing products that are not standard tests. -Perform and/or coordinate required testing for regulatory compliance and SDS creation. -Participates in meetings. -Communicate expert analytical recommendations for all Gelest products. -Includes appropriate people in the decision-making process. -Develop new analytical processes and maintain analytical instrumentation in the research and development areas. -Generate technical information for internal and external use, including the presentation of technical papers and seminars.

What You Bring

-Ability to write reports, and other communications as required. -Ability to work independently under deadline pressure and, when needed, extra hours on assignments. -At least 1-3 (Bachelor’s) or 0-1 (Master’s) years’ experience in one area of analytical chemistry as follows: (i) Chromatography (GC, GC/MS, HPLC, LC/MS, GPC) (ii) spectroscopy (FTIR, NMR, UV-Vis), (iii) physical testing (DSC, TGA, Rheology, Tensile Strength), (iv) surface analysis (XPS, Contact Angle, AFM). -Experience using Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). -Works well as a member of a team in solving analytical problems. -Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, fellow team members, and customers. -The ability to work in solving chemical and analytical problems as well as familiarity with the QC of chemical materials. -The minimum qualification is a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a technical discipline (i.e., analytical chemistry, chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science). -Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical data and procedures. -Writes clearly and informatively. -Ability to define problems and technically implement solutions, to collect data and establish facts, and then to draw valid conclusions for publication in research and technical papers and towards presentations at conferences. -Must be able to lift 25 pounds. -Communicates well with team members and with customers. -Demonstrates attention to detail. -Uses experience to complement data generated.
