Design Manager

Overview

Lead design management for rail and civil projects, handling BIM, contracts and coordination.

Tasks

-Ensure an appropriate Category of Design Check is identified. -Conducting and facilitating the Design Start-up Meeting. -Acting as the main interface between the Design Consultant and the bid or project team, to ensure the flow of information. -Conducting Design Reviews. -Identify and raise Technical Queries for design and BIM related items. -Ensure change is identified and managed in accordance with the change procedure, working with the commercial teams. -Assist with writing / preparing Tender submission responses. -Assist with reviewing CDM Competency Assessments from designers. -Reviewing quotations / proposals from designers against the design brief and ensuring that all required scope items are priced and programmed. -Conduct interdisciplinary coordination meetings. -Agreeing the design programme and monitoring the progress of design through the pre-contract phase. -Assist the commercial team in preparing information for the designer appointment. -Ensuring that the design is checked and certified appropriately -Ensure project risks and design assumptions are communicated to the bid team. -Ensure information to complete design is identified and exchanged at the appropriate time and in accordance with the project BIM Execution plan where applicable. -Challenging the design consultant on residual risks and communicating them to the Project Delivery Team. -Identify and raise Technical Queries/Requests for Information for design and BIM related items. -Review Tender / Remit documentation and establish AmcoGiffen design scope and responsibilities, including identification of BIM requirements. -Preparing the Design Brief -Review of procedures and suggest improvements. -Assisting with the consultant selection process and ensuring AmcoGiffen design scope is allocated to an appropriate designer. -Review designer performance and record scores in performance database. -Monitor the progress of design delivery against agreed programme. -Complete Design / Engineering Management Plan.

What You Bring

-Degree, HNC, HND in Civil Engineering or equivalent technical experience -Extensive experience managing multi-disciplinary civil and rail projects -Knowledge of electrical disciplines related to solar and EV projects is advantageous -Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills -Experience as Design Manager in a multi-disciplinary rail and civils contracting environment.
