  • Create and maintain databases for bridges, structural stairways, and large retaining walls for use in asset management.
  • Provide Inspection guidance to Engineers-in-Training and summer students.
  • Respond to public concerns, requests and inquiries; authorize bridge overload permits.
  • Perform structural and functional condition inspections and assessments of all City traffic, LRT and pedestrian bridges.
  • Manage bridge investigations and repair projects, including the preparations of specifications and contract documents for bridge repairs or rehabilitation.

Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.

  • An understanding of civil engineering principles and construction practices is essential.
  • Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
  • At least 3 years of related experience in bridge inspections, structures and maintenance activities.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalency) with no more than 6 demerits OR a Class 5 Graduated Driver's License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits, and no current charges or suspension pending is required.
  • A completed 2 year technical diploma in an Engineering-related field.
  • Success in this position requires he ability to work effectively in a team environment, and strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate exceptional organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of construction practices and structural design in the areas of bridges and other transportation structures will be considered assets.
