The Role

Overview

Assist crew chief with field surveying tasks and equipment in various outdoor settings.

Tasks

-Operating OHVs (Off-Highway Vehicles) in all weather conditions. -Comply with jurisdictional Commercial Carrier Safety requirements/regulations (training provided by Midwest). -Utilize company-required checklists and procedures. -Follow all Midwest health and safety policies, practices & procedures, with a commitment to contributing to the safe work culture. -Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including maintenance of tools, supplies, and vehicles. -Utilizing hand tools, such as hammers, sledgehammers and jackhammers to install survey monumentation and markings. -Assume a safety lead position should the Crew Chief become injured. -Participate in monthly field safety meetings. -Lifting equipment and supplies between 20-35 kg (50-80 lbs.) and carrying equipment and supplies up to 20 kg (50 lbs). -Develop a basic understanding of project related documentation and project workflows.

What You Bring

-A High School Diploma, or equivalent (completed courses in Geomatics from a recognized post-secondary institution is considered an asset). -A valid driver’s license, free of major convictions as defined in jurisdictional traffic safety regulations (i.e., distracted driving, driving while impaired). -Able to communicate effectively with the Crew Chief, including asking questions and a willingness to learn about survey methodology and techniques. -Experience with operating Off Highway Vehicles (OHVs) & 1-ton class trucks (F-350 or similar medium duty truck). -Comfort with the operation and use of navigational and orienteering tools (e.g., handheld GPS units, Google® maps, hard-copy paper maps, etc.). -Experience working outdoors in all weather conditions. -Able to operate all communication and electronic equipment (cell phones, laptops, etc.). -Able to operate motor vehicles, including OHVs (off-highway vehicles) and medium-duty trucks (Ford F-350 or similar). -Able to complete basic survey tasks such as staking and flagging boundaries and searching/digging for survey evidence. -The ability to comply with Drug & Alcohol testing requirements as stipulated by client requirements and jurisdictional health and safety regulations. -Experience with basic Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel. -Walking on a variety of uneven ground, up to several kilometers (i.e., fields, pasture, construction sites, rugged natural terrain, etc). -Able to operate survey equipment under the supervision of the Crew Chief, including setting up, operation and packing up all survey equipment. -Experience in a similar role including the use of survey equipment (e.g., GNSS RTK, Total Stations, Levels, UAVs, etc.) is an asset. -Able to perform basic survey data collector functions under the supervision of the Crew Chief.
