Tasks
-Perform engineering and construction field testing primarily roadway/bridge projects. -Perform computations with formulas, plots data and draws simple curves and graphs. -Perform construction engineering technician (inspection) services related to earthwork, concrete, asphalt and utility construction for NCDOT, municipalities, and private sector clients. -This position works independently on broad projects under direction of a Dept. Manager while managing a team of direct reports or projects. -Assist Engineers in the field during soil and materials investigations. -Inspect and report on specific aspects of construction works in progress, such as concrete pours, rebar placement, pipe replacements as examples. -May assist with notifying the Contractor or the Project Engineer of non-conforming work. -Prepare and maintain project records and reports. -Inspect and sample construction materials. -Verify plan quantities and calculations as bid plans. -Perform inspections for construction projects to ensure contractor compliance with state specifications, plans, and/or proposals for primarily roadway work, roadway, pavement. -Ensure that job site tests/observations, including quality control, quality assurance, and verifications are performed in accordance with the standard test/observation methods, project specifications and other contract documents. -Perform field testing and observation of soils, concrete and asphalt.

What You Bring
-NCDOT project experience and certifications are a strong plus. -Experience in performing quality control initiatives and performance testing. -Ability to work in external environment conditions during difficult weather. -Knowledge of engineering, construction, testing and inspection principles. -This position will use experience while learning new skills to assist clients through our cross-functional team dynamic and company culture. -Skill in field reporting, writing reports and maintaining records -Experience with concrete, asphalt, earthwork, and utility construction engineering services and inspection/testing. -Projects are typically in the western NC region. Frequent travel within this region is expected. -Experience with materials testing. -Experience with standard testing and observation methods. -Must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. -Understanding of construction or engineering services. -Ability to provide status updates independently. -2+ years experience in construction inspection and testing on NCDOT projects. -Familiarity with highway construction specifications and previous field experience. -Strong written and verbal communication skills. -Preferred certifications: ACI Grade I, DOT Asphalt Tech, NICET Level II Soils, ICC Special inspections and/or CWI/NDT inspectors – good to have but not required. -Experience with field and laboratory testing of soil, concrete, asphalt, aggregate, masonry, structural steel, etc.
