Tasks
This position is accountable for the preparation of estimates, takeoffs, and gathering information required for project proposals. Activities of the incumbent include working closely with the project team(s) to ensure success in the bid proposal and award process. As an Estimator, you’ll play a key role in preparing cost estimates, takeoffs, and bid proposals that drive our success in securing major projects. You’ll collaborate closely with project teams to ensure accuracy, competitiveness, and alignment with Orion’s core values of Safety, Quality, Delivery, Teamwork, and Integrity. -Conducts investigation of potential project site accompanied by job sponsor. -Coordinates with subcontractors and vendors to make sure quotes are received by date, preferably before final review date, and are in compliance with bid form and per plan specifications. -Organizes estimates, quotations, notes, plans, and other pertinent data for final pre-bid review and leads discussion of individual bid items. -Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance with State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs. -Collects all quotations and enters data into the project management information system regarding quote and survey information. -Reports any and all violations of applicable laws, regulations, or Company policies and procedures promptly and is subject to appropriate disciplinary action (including dismissal) for failure to do so. -All employees, current and former, must maintain confidentiality by not disclosing to others any confidential, proprietary, or trade secret information belonging to the Company. -Supervises preparation of man-hours and unit production for the various items in the project. -Contacts all material suppliers and subcontractors involved in a given project and solicits quotations on needed bid items. -Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, and Company policies and procedures and is subject to appropriate disciplinary action (including dismissal) for failure to do so. -Maintains and updates vendor files for various construction materials and subcontractors. -Assists in the establishment of proper sequencing of construction labor requirements and productivity. -Responsible and accountable for incumbent's own personal safety. -Performs quantity surveys to develop a basis for cost estimates/pricing. -Prepares listing of bid items for review by the Project Management Team. -Works as a key member of the Project Management Team helping to ensure success in the bid estimation process for marine construction projects. -Assists in the review and analysis of bid documents for items relating to project risk, cost, or company capability. -Responsible and accountable for the safety of all co-workers and any others the incumbent comes in contact with. -Prepares all bid documents and arranges in work sheet form.

We’re seeking a skilled Estimator to join our team and support the growth of marine and heavy civil construction projects. -The incumbent must be able to travel to potential project areas, maintain a current passport, possess strong computer skills, and have the ability to interface well with employees at all levels of the organization. -The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation. -The incumbent must possess the ability to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstances of the incident and as directed by the Safety Representative or other management personnel. Must be capable of evacuating the work area in a timely manner should an emergency situation arise. -The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes a hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and the location the work is being done. -This individual must also have the ability to identify critical issues and formulate action plans with all levels of management including corporate. -A minimum of five (5) years estimating experience in marine construction or a related industry is required. Ideally, the incumbent must have familiarization with Project Estimating, Marine Construction Materials, Procurement, Construction Estimating, Scheduling, Project Tracking Software, Cost Control, Project Standards, and Safety & Environmental Compliance. B.S. in Civil Engineering/Construction Management or related discipline is preferred. -Authorized and obligated to stop work on any task or series of tasks whenever an unsafe condition or situation is anticipated or observed.
