Tasks

Responsible for overseeing and maintaining safety standards across all aspects of the company's supply chain, from raw material sourcing to product delivery, by implementing safety policies, conducting risk assessments, investigating incidents, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, with the goal of preventing accidents and promoting a strong safety culture throughout the logistics network. Operating Environment: Reporting to the Head of SHES, the incumbent is required to ensure compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements for the management of safety standards across all aspects of the company's supply chain, from raw material sourcing to product delivery. Aligns all behaviours with Orica’s Charter Values, Purpose and Strategy. -Monitor adherence to all relevant safety regulations (DOT, Transport Canada, etc.) throughout the supply chain -Ensure safety policies are communicated effectively to all levels of the supply chain, including vendors, transporters, and warehouse personnel -Conduct regular safety audits and inspections at warehouses, transportation hubs, and supplier facilities -Generate regular safety reports for management, highlighting performance and areas needing attention -Develop and implement emergency response plans for logistics operations and conduct regular drills to ensure readiness. -Develop and maintain comprehensive Transport Management Plan, aligned with industry standards and legal requirements -Track key safety metrics such as incident rates, near misses, and compliance levels to identify trends and areas for improvement -Implement preventive measures to mitigate identified risks and prioritize safety improvements -Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety performance and foster a culture of safety within the logistics team -Work closely with other departments within the organization, including operations, quality control, and procurement, to integrate safety considerations into all supply chain activities -Develop and deliver safety training programs for all supply chain personnel, on topics like hazard identification and emergency procedures – including Major Hazard Management (MHM) -Maintain detailed documentation of incidents, investigations, and corrective actions -Collaborate with vendors and third-party logistics providers to ensure their safety practices align with company standards -Conduct ongoing safety awareness campaigns to reinforce safety culture -Investigate all safety incidents thoroughly, including near misses, to determine root causes and implement corrective action plans -Conduct regular risk assessments across the supply chain to identify potential hazards in warehousing, transportation, and material handling operations

Familiarity with ISO 45001 or similar safety management systems preferred -Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and address safety concerns -Skills: Excellent attention to detail, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and proficiency in safety management software and tools. Effective communication and interpersonal skills -Must be able to travel up to 50%, including international travel -Proficiency in data analysis and reporting to track safety performance -Education: Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, Logistics, Engineering, or a related field -Strong understanding of safety principles and regulations in the logistics industry -Ability to speak French preferred, but not required -Proven ability to develop and implement safety programs -Certifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CESP) or similar certification is preferred, but not required -Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong organizational and time management skills -Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a safety management role within the logistics or manufacturing industry -Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions
