As an Architectural Specification Writer, you will be responsible for developing, editing, and maintaining architectural specifications, coordinating with project teams, consultants, construction managers, and client representatives. Your work will be essential in ensuring technical accuracy, code compliance, product selection, and integration across disciplines.
- Coordinate directly with architectural design teams to ensure specifications accurately reflect design intent, performance criteria, and client requirements.
- Support firmwide architectural standards and industry best practices related to systems design and performance.
- Research and recommend new materials, construction methods, and product technologies for inclusion in master specifications.
- Conduct QA/QC reviews of project manuals and construction documents to ensure completeness, clarity, and consistency.
- Produce and edit technical specifications for assigned projects using CSI Divisions 1–14.
- Participate in project team meetings, representing the technical specifications function and ensuring coordinated efforts across disciplines.
- Approve architectural submittals and shop drawings to confirm conformance with specifications.
- Evaluate and incorporate architectural equipment and product selections in collaboration with the project team.
- Review and update master specification templates for code compliance, sustainability goals, and material innovations.
- Maintain and enhance the firm’s master architectural specifications library.

Do you have experience transforming design concepts into clear, coordinated, and code-compliant technical specifications? Are you an architectural professional who is familiar with MasterSpec or SpecLink, understands construction materials and systems, and enjoys collaborating with design teams to ensure quality and consistency across projects? - Prior experience with K-12, corporate, multifamily, or healthcare projects is beneficial.
- Experience with MasterSpec or SpecLink preferred.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture (or related technical degree in architectural systems design).
- 3+ years of architectural specification writing experience.
- Strong knowledge of building codes, materials, and construction methods.
- CSI CCS, LEED accreditation, or architectural licensure a plus.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while coordinating across multiple project teams.
