The Role

Overview

Conduct land surveys, create topographic maps, and support construction engineering for CT DOT.

Tasks

-perform complex mathematical calculations; -Operate survey field instruments, such as conventional and robotic Total Stations, Auto and Digital Levels, GPS receivers, and LiDAR scanners. -Inspects construction projects; -Oversees field and office work in surveys; -Assists in budget preparation, report writing, general planning and administration of unit work from an engineering project coordination and technical stand point; -Reviews shop plans; -Leads survey parties or acts as chief inspector of highway construction projects; -Oversees and plans work of technical aides in maintenance, taking and analyzing test borings; -Use Microstation/Bentley OpenRoads CADD (computer aided design and drafting) /TopoDOT/Trimble Business Center to prepare, calculate, revise and edit land surveys for mapping. -Assembles and prepares contracts and unit cost figures; -Develop topographic mapping and DTM’s (Digital Terrain Models) for future Highway and Railroad construction projects and support ongoing construction projects. -Stay Connected! Log in daily to your JobAps Personal Status Board to track your status and check email (including spam/junk folders) for updates and tasks. -Performs complex tasks in the generation of base survey planimetric and topographic mapping and cross sections utilizing an analytical stereoplotter and a CADD (computer aided design and drafting) system work terminal; -Acts as a team member in preparation of plans and estimates for construction or maintenance of bridges, structures and highways; -develop and interpret plans and specifications. -Oversees collection, recording, preparation and analysis of data pertaining to materials testing and transportation planning; -Prepares research and administrative reports; -Use surveying software to perform complex computations. -analyze and evaluate construction location problems and provide effective solutions;

If requested, RQs can be accessed via an email sent to you after the job close date or by visiting your JobAps Personal Status Board (Certification Questionnaires section). -oral and written communication skills; -Experience processing and adjusting GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) networks. -Possession of a Level III Survey Technician Certification from the National Society of Professional Surveyors may be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree requirement. -Experience with CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) software. -Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of more than one specialized field in transportation construction engineering such as construction, surveys and materials testing; -Incumbents may be required to possess appropriate certification from the NorthEast Transportation Training and Certification Program (NETTCP). -Possession of an American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification, at the level of a Welding Inspector (WI) or above, may be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree requirement. -A Master’s degree in engineering may be substituted for one (1) year of the General Experience. -Experience with land surveying practices and principles of surveying network adjustments. -skill in use of computer aided design and drafting (CADD) applications; -Possession of Land Surveyor (LS) licensure or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure from the Department of Consumer Protection State Board of Examiners for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors consistent with C.G.S. -Experience working with survey and construction plan sets. -Possession of Land Surveyor-In-Training (LSIT) licensure or Engineer-In-Training (EIT) licensure from the Department of Consumer Protection State Board of Examiners for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors consistent with C.G.S. -Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Land Surveying or possession of Land Surveyor (LS) or Land Surveyor-In-Training (LSIT) licensure. -Experience using Bluebeam, Microsoft Word, Teams Excel, Outlook, and Microsoft Word. -interpersonal skills; -Ability to -Possession of at least Level III certification, from the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET), in one of the following Civil Engineering Technology Programs may be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree requirement: -20-302 may be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree requirement. -Experience with 3d point cloud processing and 3d linework extraction. -Experience with land surveying practices and principles of surveying boundary determinations. -Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license. -A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required and must be maintained. -Experience gathering field data for land surveying projects. -Applicants must be available to travel. -technical skills in preparation of engineering and administrative reports; -Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
