Tasks

-Assess risk associated with various RFP and bid requests that are received daily -Review weekly and monthly scorecards with individuals on the estimating team -Define and continue existing estimating process with the goal to improve over time -Ensure estimating software and processes are used correctly and regularly maintained for accuracy -Self-perform select bids but work with estimating team for take offs -Review daily bid invites, select appropriate jobs for bid -Learn and understand the business, the processes, the customers and the employees -Follow upon post mortem project reviews with project management and finance -Assist projects and service departments with proposal requests -Review estimator take offs, labor, subs, scope of work, prior to bid submission -Hold key relationships with GC and Owners and work to expand, develop and build strong relationships -Lead, manage and hold accountable the department's performance and team -Work with sales and service to assure all project bids are tracked and processed through departments -Create a consistent and identical estimating process across sales, service and project departments -Ensure estimates are diligently performed, are accurate and risks are properly identified and costed -Develop positive relationships with coworkers, management, customers and vendors -Utilize company technology, methods and forms for a common estimating process -Work with management team to create an exceptional workplace culture -Perform turnover with project team including all quotes, scopes and documents -Verify follow up on all bid events -Work to ensure more owner direct work, negotiated work and high-end user work is developed -Validate pricing as accurate, current and meets specs for each bid -Attend walkthroughs when necessary -Develop and work with estimating team to build and foster customer relationships -Maintain bookings to match gross profit and labor expectations -Ensure department receives high quality bid invites

What You Bring

-Ability to read, analyze and interpret drawings. -Previous experience with formal estimating software system - preferred -Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience. -In-depth knowledge of estimating software with strong proficiency and/or the ability to learn, understand, and train others -Demonstrated group presentation skills, phone and e-mail etiquette. -Understands the competitive nature of the business and associated risk of work -experience performing design build work and value engineering in a past employment role -5+ years experience in a construction estimating role, mechanical - preferred -Organizational, supervisory, and decision making/problem solving skills. -Experience in commercial mechanical construction - preferred -Excellent mathematical and analytical skills. -Experience with end users, institutions, high-end customers -Ability to prepare complex proposals with minimum of supervision. -Understands project conditions, scope of work, drawings, systems, and specifications -Ability to use significant independent judgment. -Thorough knowledge of company procedures and estimating techniques plus industry standards, practices, and processes that impact the bid. -Advanced Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook skills. -Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills with ability to speak clearly and persuasively. -Ability to coordinate and supervise group work effort.
