The Role

Overview

Design, analyze, and support construction of tunnels and underground structures

Tasks

-Prepares design drawings and specifications -Design of micro tunnels and EPB TBM tunnels -Evaluates and characterizes ground conditions and geotechnical parameters -Prepares technical reports and presentations to present findings and recommendations -Reviews tunnel contractor construction submittals -Design and construction of tunnels and caverns, by TBM, drill and blast, and SEM methods -Performs numerical modeling for excavation design and ground behavior predictions -Maintains effective communications with the engineering team and clients -Engineering support for major tunnel construction projects -Performs calculations to design excavation support linings and shoring systems -Observe and report on construction activities and ground conditions during construction. -Works under the supervision of experienced tunnel engineers -Design and consulting for major grouting programs in the USA and abroad

What You Bring

-Ability to learn quickly and driven to broaden knowledge base -Ability to collaborate and work effectively with a team -1-4 years of experience in tunnel design -Ability to travel for short-term assignments when required, including driving -Positive attitude, dependability, and commitment to meeting deadlines -Experience with numerical modeling and training in numerical modeling software is strongly preferred -Eagerness to contribute innovative ideas to provide solutions to clients. -Engineer in Training (EIT) registration -Self-motivation and ability to work independently when required -Ability to obtain PE registration within 2-4 years -BS in civil engineering, geological engineering, or related engineering discipline -Training and experience with AutoCAD -Practical construction or mining experience is an asset -Master’s degree in civil engineering, focused on geotechnical and/or structural engineering, with exposure to tunnel design. -Training in the use of geotechnical and structural engineering software -Strong analytical and problem-solving skills -Strong communication skills, verbal and written -Experience preparing engineering calculations, drawings, and specifications -Master’s degree in geological or mining engineering, focused on geotechnical engineering and excavation design
