The Role

Overview

Operate survey instruments and perform boundary, topographic, and construction surveys.

Tasks

-Coordinate work of assigned subordinate personnel. -Perform all aspects of stakeout and locations surveys using applicable survey equipment. -Work as a member of a survey crew performing boundary, topography, ALTA, right-of-way, and construction surveys for public and private clients. -Perform survey calculations. -Perform work under direct supervision of an experienced professional and follow established procedures and clearly defined processes. Receive direction on all aspects of assignments, specific tasks and how to execute. Work is thoroughly reviewed by more senior staff to ensure application of sound techniques and principles. -Maintain survey equipment used and keep survey truck stocked with necessary supplies and tools. -Assist and train personnel in lower-level positions. -Assist the field supervisor with all aspects of the daily crew workload. -Make accuracy and calibration checks and adjustments on equipment used. -Set-up and operate survey equipment, including total-station, data-collector, level, and GPS. -Daily, work safely and in compliance with all safety regulations. -Daily care of instruments and vehicle.

What You Bring

-Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds. -Prior Instrument Operator experience preferred. -Familiar with field procedures for performing boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS land title surveys. -Self-reliance and ability to operate independently with limited direction. -Entry level position, no prior experience required. Any survey or construction related experience a plus. -Ability to work outside in all seasons. -College or technical courses in mathematics and surveying. -Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder. -Valid driver's license with a clean driving record required. -Effective working relationship with internal leaders and peers, as well as external clients. -Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). -Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds. -Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business. -Strong work ethic and commitment to quality. -High school diploma or GED preferred. Commensurate relevant experience considered. -Highly motivated and problem-solving attitude. -Travel and overtime required. -Strong sense of urgency in responding to constituents. -Ability to work both independently and within a team environment. -Effective verbal and written communication skills. -Frequent and prolonged use of data collection equipment and/or drones, necessitating walking the assigned study area to complete data collection over the course of several hours.
