Design and test mechanical systems for space hardware, from CAD to integration.

Tasks

-Support prototype builds and practical engineering activities. -Collaborate with electronics engineers on subsystem integration (sensors, PCBs, comms hardware). -Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings for manufacture. -Develop and execute test plans (shock, vibration, thermal cycling, IP standards). -System-level assembly, integration, and test -Analyse test data and contribute to design improvements. -Develop engineering solutions across structures, propulsion, thermal, and safety systems. -Apply DfX principles for efficient manufacturing and servicing. -Lead internal design reviews and support supplier/client technical discussions.

What You Bring

This role is ideal for engineers with 5–10 years’ experience in aerospace, space, high-tech product development, or a similarly demanding engineering environment. You’ll work across a variety of systems and have the chance to shape products from concept through to test and integration. -Degree in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or equivalent industry experience. -Experience with composites or advanced materials. -Strong design engineering background across complex electro-mechanical systems. -Communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team. -Hands-on testing experience. -Knowledge of manufacturing processes (CNC, sheet metal, injection moulding, 3D printing). -Working knowledge of FEA/CFD. -Understanding of pressure systems (PSSR). -Proficiency with CAD and PDM tools. -3D CAD modelling and detailed manufacturing drawings (SolidWorks/Autodesk) -Strong documentation and communication skills. -Ability to obtain/hold UK security clearance (BPSS). -Practical prototyping and workshop skills.
