Lead mechanical engineering, business development & team for healthcare projects in CA.
-Lead and deliver projects with accountability for the profitable performance of individual projects and their successful completion within the specified area. -Provide technical assistance on various engineering, design, and construction issues relating to automatic temperature control systems and specifications, air distribution (supply, return, exhaust), hydronic systems (chilled water, heating water, etc.), and plumbing systems (domestic water, waste, vent, storm, etc.). -Develop, coach, train, and value our people. -Provide senior leadership for proposals and project work scopes, pricing, budget, and performance metrics for the engineering discipline and contractor negotiations. -Funnel information and communicate with the Marketing Team and Operations Team. -Lead technical aspects of contract negotiation, presentations, and meetings. -Provide performance guidance and proactive leadership to assigned managers and staff. -Drive the overall long-term strategy, growth, and pipeline development of Mechanical Engineering work for WSP in assigned area of responsibility, with a focus on infrastructure opportunities in all disciplines (planning, design, and strategic consulting and program/construction management). -Serve as the engineering discipline’s representative/liaison to various external entities including Federal, State, and Local Agencies, Clients, Subcontractors, industry-related groups, and government and community entities. -Provide discipline leadership to multi-disciplinary project teams and contribute to providing high-level strategic advice to clients. -Oversee the implementation of process changes. -Interpret and summarize data, including reports and documents for complex projects and initiatives that result in sound engineering and regulatory conclusions. -Oversee preliminary pricing development, risk analysis, and go/no go process during proposal and scoping phases. -Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. -Collaborate with professionals from various disciplines to provide future-ready solutions for clients. -Lead engineering discipline meetings and continuing educational opportunities, providing updates and recommendations to staff to foster innovation, development, and quality project delivery. -Resource projects and coordinate with other offices and business lines for intercompany work. -Develop high-level business contacts and a client base for providing high-level mechanical engineering services, including identifying additional business development opportunities and cross-selling other WSP capabilities.
-Technical or A/E/C sales background required. -Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or closely related discipline. -Extensive advanced proficiency with building and infrastructure design. -Engineer license required (multi-state preferred). -Advanced knowledge and proficiency with office automation, load calculations, discipline-specific design software (i.e., AutoCAD, CAM), technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools used in the corporate environment. -Strong experience in managing the review and approval of documents and discipline-specific deliverables, certifications, processes, and plans in a multi-project environment is highly desirable. -Externally focused on business development, client outreach, and pursuit management. -Sustainability certification. -20+ years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior mechanical design experience. -15+ years of relevant post education experience in engineering, mechanical, and infrastructure design in the healthcare sector -Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to manage staff, and effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization. -Advanced proficiency with mechanical engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, standard of care, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues. -Advanced knowledge of relevant mechanical engineering and construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements, and the business impact upon the organization. -Strategic lateral thinking and strong analytical skills with attention to detail and prioritization of responsibilities in a pressure work environment. -Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needs. -Remain current in the latest mechanical engineering techniques and practices. -Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including senior management, clients, and company-wide staff, including those with whom no formal hierarchical relationship exits. -Excellent leadership and development skills. -Demonstrated ability with establishing, implementing, and managing multiple larger-scale discipline-related programs, documents, projects, and practices for a line(s) of business. -Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and ability to build long-term, meaningful relationships with clients. Ability to translate complicated technical information into sales messages. -Ability to influence and gain buy-in from clients and our team. -Demonstrated Change Management skills and experience. -Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. -Ability to think strategically and creatively, and craft approaches to challenging problems.
