The Role

Overview

Design and engineer land development projects, including grading, utilities, and stormwater.

Tasks

-Design of utility systems including stormwater conveyance, sanitary sewer service, pump station design, water, gas, telephone service, etc. Also involves determination and resolution of vertical and horizontal utility conflicts that may exist. -Soil erosion & sediment control design including stability calculations, best management practices, swale design, spillway design, and determination of construction sequence. -Work closely with the Infrastructure department to help with utility coordination and municipal utility design for complex highway and bridge projects. -Review of municipal zoning and land development ordinances and applicable agency regulations to determine land development limitations for the property. -Site Investigation & Due Diligence includes the review of ordinances, utility service research, outside agency regulations, and site visits to establish comprehensive development guidelines. -Subdivision and site plan design and layout. -Leadership role in the review and design of Stormwater Management & Stormwater Conveyance Systems including use of AutoCAD Civil 3D and Hydrology design software. -Design land development projects using Civil 3D including site, grading, and utilities. -Preparation of Construction Cost Estimates based upon site plan drawings as required for bonding and client purposes. -Preparation of Concept Drawings based upon client’s development objectives and conclusions of due diligence. Involves preparation of concept plan, including coordination with AutoCAD draftsmen. -Grading design to ensure value engineering is achieved through earthwork analysis, and site safety is accomplished using appropriate design slopes.

What You Bring

-Proficiency in technical skills in storm water management, hydraulics, hydrological analysis, grading and other site development related designs. -Surface runoff coefficients, invert, slope, velocity & hydraulic grade line evaluation using the Rational Method & Manning’s Equation. -Ability to read, write, and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions. -Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering is required. -EIT (Engineer in Training) certification is required. PE license is preferred. -Potential to take an active leadership role and guide junior staff. -Skills should include preparation of pipe sizing calculations for stormwater conveyance systems including drainage area maps. -Knowledge of stormwater management design regulations. -Demonstrated Civil 3D skills with the ability to design site layouts concept through completion. -Prior experience with business development, project management, client facing, or estimating costs is a plus. -4+ years of related land development (civil/site) experience is required. -Experience with MicroStation, HydroCAD, WaterCAD, HEC-HMS/-RAS, OpenRoads, and InRoads is a plus.
