Overview
Manage navigation, cargo, safety and crew operations as a watchkeeping mate on an oil tanker.

Tasks
-Become familiar with the handling characteristics of the vessel (maneuvering, docking, anchoring, etc.) as well as the operation of critical systems (electronic navigation aids, steering, Ballast operations, Cargo operations, safety apparatus, etc.). Performs navigational watches while underway and safety/anchor/dock watches at times. Overall incharge and responsible for safe Port – Cargo watches and conduct of vessel cargo operations including Loading / Unloading / Ballast-Deballast operations during such watches. Assists the Captain with the maintenance of required logbooks according to established practice and in established formats. As guided by Chief Mate, Responsible for deck planned maintenance or Safety equipments. During Navigation, Cargo watches as well during Mooring operations, Directs and supervises all members of the deck department, and ensures that each understands and performs their assigned duties adequately. Assists Captain with training and orientation of new crew members. Coordinates line-handling when coming to port, anchoring, skiff-launching and retrieval, deck maintenance and safety. Participate in the design and execution of emergency drills, generally taking charge of on-scene response actions. Help ensure written drill reports are properly logged. What You Bring
-Watchkeeping Mate license (Unlimited) issued by Transport Canada. Chief Mate license will be an asset. -Minimum 6 months of experience on a Oil tanker. -Vessel Personnel with Security Responsibilities - Certificate. -Marine Emergency Duties (MED) with respect to STCW basic safety; MED training with respect to proficiency in survival craft and rescue boats other than fast rescue boats; MED in advanced firefighting; MED for officers; ECDIS- Generic. -Experience as a Third/Second Mate of a tanker vessel equal to or greater than 3000 GRT. -Become familiar with the handling characteristics of the vessel (maneuvering, docking, anchoring, etc.) as well as the operation of critical systems (electronic navigation aids, steering, Ballast operations, Cargo operations, safety apparatus, etc.). -Oil Tanker Basic Familiarisation Certificate of Porficiency with Transport Canada Level-1 Endorsement – Minimum Required. -Accident/Hazard Investigation training. -A thorough understanding and experience with various marine industry regulations including ISM code. -Experience in carriage of Bitumen (Asphalt) is an asset. -Dual Fuel (LNG) training as per IGF Code – Basic -Bridge Resource Management training. -Desired - Pilotage Certificates PM1 or 2 for Cornwall District, District-1, LO District, District-2. -practice and in established formats. -General Operator’s Certificate (GOC). -Eligible to enter the US -A valid Passport and Marine Medical. -Supervision of an Oil Transfer Operation certificate of proficiency (SOTO) with Transport Canada Level-2 Endorsement – Desired
