Tasks

As a Principal Safety Case Engineer, your day-to-day responsibilities will cover all aspects of the business, from business winning to subsequent project delivery. You will be a key member with responsibility for developing the team, both internally and within the customer organisations. You will use your expertise and knowledge to help develop the next generation of Safety Consultants throughout the Client's business portfolio. -Independent assessment of the technical basis of claims and disputes. -Directing and supervising the work of technical specialists within the same discipline. -Reviewing industry best practice for implementation; -Producing estimates for bids; -Leading and participating in Hazard Identification studies; -Feeding back lessons learnt for use on future stages of the current project and other projects. -Co-ordinating production of the safety submission including all specialist safety input; -Ensuring that deployed resources are suitably qualified and experienced personnel; -Managing project risks by closing out safety items on the Technical Issues and Risk Register Database; -Peer reviewing bids and designs; -Review and approval of design changes, concessions and technical queries; -Ensuring that processes and procedures are correctly applied to technical activities. -Managing delivery for the work undertaken within their agreed remit against cost and programme to the satisfaction of the Key Stakeholders i.e. Safety Case Managers, Safety Case Owners, Client Team, Safety Committee, INSA/Peer Review, NSC, Regulators; -Supporting submissions through the various review and approval stages; -Growing the business through the identification and development of opportunities; -Raising quality plans for single discipline work packages; -Producing, verifying and approving calculations, analyses, design basis documentation and technical reports; -Building and maintaining customer relationships; -Maintaining awareness of wider industry process and project developments; -Acting as the Point of Contact for the Key Stakeholders, ensuring adequate communication between the Engineering Delivery Team, Construction Experts, Operators, Safety Assessors, Site Safety Case Managers and other Stakeholders; -Producing, verifying, and approving technical Scopes of Work, assessing tender returns, then verifying/assessing and/or approving the outputs to ensure that the requirements of the design sub-contract are met; -Preparing and agreeing the Safety Case Strategy; -Providing the nuclear safety input to design projects, ensuring that nuclear safety requirements are incorporated; -HAZOP Chair and production of HAZOP Reports; -Derivation of SFRs; -Representing the discipline to customers, regulatory and external bodies. -Providing safety case input to bids;

What You Bring

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain SC Level security clearance for this role. Security Clearance -Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of ONR Safety Assessment Principles and relevant legislation such as, the Radiation (Emergency Preparedness and Public Information) Regulations 2019, the Environmental Permitting Regulations 2016, Environmental Authorisations (Scotland) Regulations 2018, and IAEA SSR-6 and associated transport legislation. -Demonstrable problem solving, leadership and communication skills; -Demonstrable knowledge of specialist safety case disciplines, such as criticality assessment, shielding and dose assessment, environmental assessment, human factors; -Are you experienced in developing safety cases for high-hazard projects in the oil and gas, petrochemical, or pharmaceutical arenas? -Input to development of processes and procedures that are pragmatic, proportionate, scalable and widely applicable; -Demonstrable experience of directing and producing Safety Case documentation, for example: -Demonstrable knowledge with cross-industry experience and in-depth knowledge of a wide range of nuclear facilities, their operations and site license compliance arrangements; -Demonstrable experience in managing teams to deliver large, technically complex, fit for purpose safety cases; -Bachelor Honours Degree (minimum) in relevant Science or Engineering related discipline; -Demonstrable experience in the mentoring, training, and development of more junior staff;
